Majerus / A-10.. from the AP

Saint Louis coach Rick Majerus is no fan of the school's affiliation with the Atlantic-10 Conference. Too much travel, too expensive, too hard on the students.
If Majerus had his way, the school would sacrifice a bit of prestige, put the student-athletes first and play in a league closer to home. His choice would be the St. Louis-based Missouri Valley.
It's not a sentiment likely to endear Majerus to the Rev. Lawrence Biondi, the school president who orchestrated Saint Louis' move to the A-10 for the 2005-06 season.
Majerus is concerned that trips to the East Coast are forcing his players to miss too many classes.

he's really concerned that they don't have as good of pizza out east...

actually, he kinda knows he'll never be able to compete year in and year out at the level of Dayton, Xavier, Temple, St. Joe's etc..

here's yet another statement by Rick Majerus that is bothersome to even many of his own fans...
he is criticizing the location of the other teams in the A-10, cities where everyone else has to go regardless of how scenic...

"No one wants to go to Olean, N.Y., (St. Bonaventure) and Massachusetts and those places"

but guess how some of the Billiken fans respond...
with this...
"With all respect, who cares if we (go to and) play Evansville or Indiana State, Illinois State--no one cares..
At least Bradley is fairly close but only us old fans even remember any games against Bradley."

The answer is, and has been:

Xavier
Dayton
Valpo
Butler
Evansville
Depaul
Bradley
St Louis

+

0-4 other "similar" midwestern programs.

and why not Creighton also. I like the academic standards that they and Drake bring to the table.

Thats not really fair to judge right now in the middle of year 3.

More Rick Majerus/A-10 news........

Next year's schedule for the A-10 will "partner" certain schools with others to help cut down on travel times and allow some schools to play each other twice based on a certain geographical proximity.......

Majerus got his wish...he's "partnered" with Xavier, Dayton, and Duquesne, not necessarily right in his back yard, but the three closest other A-10 opponents...
