Braves lose 73-68

I thought we played pretty well. It certainly wasn't a meltdown like Iowa State. We did a lot well, Creighton was lights out. I think everyone in the arena was waiting for the threes to stop, but they really never did. If we go man, they dump it to that big guy and he goes right around our 5, if we go zone they chuck 3's. Even though they made a ton of them, I'd rather see them take those then let their 5 (forget his name) score 25 points on layups, dunks and free throws. If you make 3's and have a big man that needs to be double teamed, you are going to score against anyone, no?

We shot poorly, they shot great. Story of the game. The fact that were were in it at the end was pretty impressive. Big game Saturday.

It really pisses me off when the complacents say this about those of us who expect more. We're not bailing on the team. In fact, we know they're better than this and hold them to much higher standards than everyone else.

Why is everyone setting the bar so low for our team? Perhaps it is the rest of you who have little faith. Because if you set the bar low enough.... you cant really fail.

No one is setting the bar low, we just don't go crazy everytime we lose. If it was a lack of effort that is one thing, but it wasn't and hasn't been for a while so these kind of games will happen. As long as effort stays around this team is talented enough that they will do pretty well the rest of the year

Should have won this game. I'm on the "positive side," but... I think Les got outcoached tonight, the zone was mindboggling. I guess you could say he was playing percentages against a team that was shooting 31.6% coming into tonight (good for 259th in the country)... But they were hotter than anything, and punished us each time. That for me cancelled out the "ref effect" which was ridiculous tonight, there was one ref who was just killing us. But, like I said, refs=Les zone tonight (I'm giving that zebra about 9 points, plus/minus 3-- which is probably what that zone cost us).

It was a tough game to lose because we pretty much kicked the crap out of Creighton on every stat that wasn't shooting percentage. Stats aren't out yet, but we commanded the boards, and I think they turned it over more than we did. If the team keeps doing that, we'll win some more games, if they start mailing it in, season done. I feel like CU is going to be like SIU this year, and we'll beat them at our place, if the guys keep up the effort on the boards.

Also, someone mentioned shot selection, and yeah, WE took a couple of long mid-range shots--- but he made a couple too. The thing is, CU had ridiculously awful, terrible, absolutely stupid shot selection, time and again, and they went in. It happens. The Missouri State, SIU, WCU, Loyola losses THIS was not.

Edit: ONe other thing, best game of the year, Sam Singh. Keep it up, we need some good minutes out of you!

The Braves played well. Creighton played the best game they have played all year. Creighton was the worst free throw shooting team, and the worst 3-point shooting team before tonight's game, but they shot extraordinarily well.
Like it or not, there were several questionable charging calls that cost Bradley 3 baskets, and there was a bizarre 5-point play awarded Creighton with a foul under the basket on a made shot. That is something you'll be lucky to see once every 10 years, despite the fact that on every shot in every game there is far more contact and pushing under baskets.

I am proud of the team for playing touh and hanging in on a night when their shots weren't falling. Hopefully, there won't be so many fans that seem to want to bail out on this team like we see here every time they lose a game.
Or we could fire all the coaches and hire some of those here who are far smarter.

I wasn't able to see the game tonight because, as those on the chatroom know, I have been having problems obtaining the video of the games on channelsurfing.net due to some codec issues on my computer. So I did not get to actually see how well our team played, just heard the commentary.

So my question is not the effort we put forth tonight because I know it was there. However, since you were at the game tonight, how was our shot selection? It seemed like based on the commentary, we missed a lot of "point blank" threes (I say that in quotes since I know those are easier said than done to make them) and some shorter shots, but still played well on the offensive end. Also, how was our defensive effort? It again seemed like the effort was there, but we still gave up 31 three point attempts which unfortunately won't win many games. In other words, was Creighton just that good tonight?

...And I will ask again, why does it seem that every "poor shooting" team comes into Carver Arena and just lights us up? Why do teams continually shoot free-throws at an alarming high percentage on BU's floor?

I'm very frustrated. I am very disappointed in yet another home loss...but I am not giving up hope. A win at ISU and I can see BU going on a four game winning streak. We can still be in the top three.

Guess what. That probably was Creighton's best game. They made way more baskets than expected. We missed many more shots than expected. They were very lucky and we were very unlucky. In a vacuum, this loss isn't bad.

But guess what? When you have 10 losses you don't get to use that as an excuse. If you're 13-7, then you do. If you're 2nd in the Valley, you do. When you're .500 and keep blowing home leads, you don't. When you lose other close games, you don't.

It's a concept called margin for error. We used ours up early in the season. Therefore, we need to be more perfect later in the season to balance it out. Yes, I really liked the attitude and the style of play we brought tonight. But don't let that serve as a complete mulligan for tonight.

I have not looked at one other post on this board. I can't imagine what has been said.......My thoughts are....pathetic effort the first 13 minutes of the game. Even JL said that there was a lack of focus! I have no idea why we stay in a zone defense in the 2nd half, when they are hitting nothing but 3's on us!!!! Mind boggling! MY 9 year old son, who has never played a minute of organized basketball, asked me why we stayed in it!!!!!!

We did battle back, we did start playing better, we did get some stops......BUT I HAVE NO IDEA WHY IT TOOK US MOST OF THE FIRST HALF TO WAKE UP?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Just disgusted......

what are you talking about. i am tired of some making excuses on why we are medicore. creighton was lucky? they aren't better after they beat us on our home court? how old are you? please tell me you were joking.

Yes........they are obviously better! They are now one of three teams with a winning record in the Valley. Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing who the seven new coaches of the mediocre teams will be next season.

I thought we played pretty bad defense in the first half. Many of their three's were wide open. And if they don't shoot well there shots(form) looked pretty good to me.

I thought CU played pretty good defense for most of the first half and looked like it confused us....

Second half the game was played pretty tough by both teams......they made some ft's and we missed some.

The calls?....I don't know. We got some and so did they.

Amen....no excuse for this.

Could it be no assistant coach helps during the game?? Watch them at timeouts...they watch the contests and giveaways the whole time.

Great post. We didn't have a mulligan to use on this game, sadly. Nothing wrong with this loss, something wrong with this season, though.

Don't forget about the other six mediocre teams in the Valley. They'll all be needing coaches next season as well. Now that I think about it, just how good is Creighton to have only beaten this terrible Bradley team by just five points? What a crappy conference!

And just how bad does that make Mo. St. after the blowout and even Illinois:lol:

Great points! And that's a shame since the crowd was really into the game tonight from what I heard on the game coverage.

Yes, you can't fault Bradley for running into a hot team tonight. But like you said TAS, we have no more margin for error. Now we have to probably win at least three more on the road to have a realistic shot at third considering we still have the top two Valley teams that have yet to play in Peoria.

That's the point. This loss specifically isn't bad. It's the culmination. Sooner or later, we have to accumulate in the other direction.

Yeah-- At the half, I thought we had it. Weathered the storm, weathered the awful shooting start, Creighton couldn't keep shooting like that over two halves... etc etc etc. Just couldn't quite turn the corner.

PS- Before someone nitpicks, there is always something wrong with a home loss, but this wasn't an awful home loss like the others, it was the kind you can expect once a season... But as TAS put it, we don't get the benefit of that doubt this season because of the bad home losses.

Crowd was okay in the second half I thought. First half was quiet, but I think everyone was shellshocked by the 1/13 start or whatever it was.
