The snow has started

Got up at 5 am, snow blower started right up, did 2 or 3 trips up the drive:!: Stopped running:roll: Won't run:mad: Checked the gas and plug:? Won't Run:mad: I am tried of this BS:!: I am moving south:!: I am going to mount that **** snow blower on the roof of my car and keep going till someone ask's me what the hell is that thing on your roof and then go another 600 miles:mad: Just BS:!:
But I will be at the game tonight if I have to hook my wifes Schnauzer to the kids next doors sled !:lol:
 
Just came into Peoria from Morton... 5 accidents on 74-West alone. More in the ditch.

I know many people suck at driving in the snow, but this snow was worse than the "weathermen are wrong" claims going on here. Plows/salt needs to be out there more, it was a long drive into Peoria.
 
How much snow was Peoria supposed to get? The Airport has received 4 inches so far since yesterday morning, so I don't think the forecast was really all that far off...still the potential for another inch or so...maybe two in a few spots, so 5-6 inches will probably end up being the total there.
 
Just drove into town. The temps are just low enough that the underlying pavements are very slippery. Traffic in Peoria was slow, especially around any hills or even slight grades, as many drivers had trouble getting up the slope. Many main streets are not well cleared. I saw a couple spinouts by drivers trying to change lanes or turn, so if you are planning on driving today, please be careful and maintain a safe distance.

The total snowfall looked to be about 4 to 5 inches since yesterday afternoon.
 
Snow has stopped here in McLean County. Any idea if this is the end of it? Sure don't want to miss this one tonight. May have to leave early and grab a hotel room.
 
Well the weatherman blew another 1 LOL. Peoria was suppose to get 6-8 inches with higher amounts along & N of the I-74 corridor (which is Peoria). Well guess what, Peoria got maybe 3 to 4 inches and the higher amounts were along the I-72 corridor near Lincoln and Decatur LOL. You could see it all last evening and overnight that the heavier snow was staying in that area, yet the NWS failed to update its forecast. At least they got the DC storms predicted right LOL, wouldn't that be a bitch if they predicted 20+ inches of snow and only 5 or 6 inches fell LOL. Oh well no biggie, I would of still been at the game anyways.

Now it's time for the dang winds to pick up and get cold as heck outside. Currently a wind chill of -4 in Peoria but it's suppose to rise to 0 in a few hours.

That's my point...the weathermen still predicted the BIG storm even though radar showed it clearly not giving us a direct hit.

I drove about 20 minutes to work and all the roads were good to drive on. I hit 116, 24 and route 8. All were in good shape. The snow was light and dusty.

Only problem could be blowing later if the wind picks up.

Weather is the job to get into kids....you never have to be right. ever

It looks like there is another band of snow moving in soon. Then it appears to clear up after that.

Well good to hear that most of the snow should be out of the way in time for the game. The blowing and drifting snow may be another story though, but it shouldn't be that bad within the city limits.

In the meantime it's snowing like heck up here in the northern suburbs of Chicago with about 4 or 5 inches on the ground so far. Looks like the lake effect snow will be locking in shortly so we can see those amounts easily double up here.

And it's snowing straight sideways downtown...which never makes for a good commute anywhere!

Not much snowfall down here and hoping I don't hit really bad areas headed that way as I-55 is usually a pain around the Springfield interchange and then again around Morton.

Don't go South friend. Rains too much. Come out West. Haven't been rained out of golf yet this trip to Mesa. Maybe tomorrow though. But ok for Friday. Seriously, everyone be careful tonight going and coming Carver. Wish I was there. I'd put in JK but even with all that white stuff I'll still miss being at that game. GO BRAVES.
 
Those of you slamming the NWS have no idea....why don't you come put yourself in my shoes just once before a winter storm hits and see what's it's like. I'm thinking you'd change your mind then...

Oh and by the way, I'm looking at the central Illinois snow totals so far right now, and the heaviest I see is 7 inches 1 mile north of Abingdon in Knox County. Last I checked that is northwest of Peoria, not south, so it looks like Jasonpeoria911 got it wrong too. The top 3 amounts were in Knox, Fulton, and Marshall Counties. Marshall is also north of Peoria, so wrong on that one as well. As of 7 am this morning 5.4 inches had fallen 2 miles southeast of Dunlap...given the snow since then, they've already hit that 6-8...looks like the NWS did better than you thought. Meanwhile, both Decatur and Lincoln have reported just 3.8 inches thus far...less than even you guys in Peoria. But hey the mis-information by Jason sounds better than the facts, doesn't it? He could see it all last evening, but must not have been seeing it too clearly based on the latest snow amounts as of 1:12 pm this afternoon.
 
Well officially at my house by Northwoods Mall in Peoria, I only have 4 inches still LOL. All that precip down in Lincoln and Decatur must of started out as rain for awhile then cuz they were getting dumped on all night. I was expecting a lot more snow than this when they said higher totals of 8 inches in Peoria and I end up with only 4 at my house.

I do know 1 area that the NWS flubbed on and that was Memphis yesterday. Early afternoon they had a storm warning out with 4-7 inches of snow predicted. However, a couple hours later, the freeze line never made it to Memphis and they only got rain. Storm warning removed for a winter weather advisory in case of any frozen slick spots that may develop.

Course, weather forecasts is all a prediction, if we all made correct predictions, they would probably eliminate the sports book betting LOL.

In East Peoria and Washington they got about 4 inches as well. This was not much of a storm.

Yeah...that was a difficult forecast for the Memphis area as it was in our forecast area of eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas as far as determining the rain/snow line, and even where it snowed, would it accumulate due to the warm air and ground temperatures. Memphis proper did get mostly rain...especially the central and east part of the city, but West Memphis got dumped on and the western and southern suburbs had 8 inches of snow. Within 10 miles, you went from all rain to 8 inches of snow. Olive Branch, MS had 8 inches of snow, the Memphis NWS office 2 miles north of Germantown had 4-5 inches, but much of the city proper of Memphis had rain. It's really a nightmare when the rain/snow line is right through a major city like that...on the west and south side, they thought the forecast was right on, but on the east side, it was a total bust. Pretty impressive satellite pics from down there today clearly showing Memphis split right in half between heavy snow cover and none at all.
