Should we play in the CBI or CIT?

Should we play in the CBI or CIT?

I cant help but feel that playing in the postseason is a privilege and not a right. I don't think we earned it. If we're not careful we'll develop the mentality of "oh well, we're still going to play in SOME sort of tournament, who cares as long as we play". Then we just become accepting of mediocrity and dont strive for anything. If we reject the CBI and CIT I think it will send a message to the players that they must earn it. 16-15 is not earning it. Set the bar high and dont reward yourself for not reaching it. I wont be spending any money to watch the CBI/CIT and I encourage you to do the same. Send Bradley the only vote that counts, your money (or lack of it). Let them know we expect better.

If my company was 6%(16/15) above breaking even, we'd all be canned.

People have been saying this a lot and I think it is a silly argument.

1. Will us fans ever accept this as what we want? No. Even those who want to play in them because it is all we have expect more.

2. Will players ever accept this as ok? No. Every player wants to go to the Big Dance plain and simple. Any player that accepts the CBI or CIT as their goal shouldn't be playing. I don't think the players accept this either. No player would.

3. Will coaches ever accept this as ok? No. I'm sure JL want NCAA tournys not these tournys. I don't think he will ever get the point of accepting these as a goal nor saying well it was a great year because we got to these.

So who is it that is going to fall into accepting these "mediocre" tournament?? I don't see how anyone will. Who is going to say "aw who cares we still get these?" NO player, NO coach, and NO fan would. Everyone wants NCAA plain and simple.

You are right BUfan14- the goal of our coaches and players is to get better, win championships, and play in the NCAA. Nobody is settling for the CBI. But if the chance presents itself this year to play more games, especially home games against good opponents, and if the team wants to do it, I see not problem with the CBI this year.

I'm selfishly all for it, I want more games to watch. I don't like spring training baseball, nor do the Cubs look very exciting this year. I would love to get an opportunity to play BCS teams like we did with Cincinnati and Virginia a couple years ago. The Tulsa series was cool too.

It's not that I'm accepting this, because I'm disappointed about the year too, and next year I still have high expectations because I think we are going to be really good. So my mentality hasn't changed, nor I'm sure has JL's or the players about next year. I'm not accepting these, but it is all we have so why not?

Exactly. I don't think anyone is accepting this either, but it is still a tournament and I think this team deserves their support if they decide that they will participate in the tournament. I'm hoping that even if only 3000 people show up, those 3000 will be standing and cheering the whole way through and giving the team as much energy as they would during a regular season conference game. It's still a great accomplishment to win this tournament, even it it's not THE tournament we all want.

And heck, I'd much rather we be playing than watching preseason baseball as well! :D

Its nice, but how much does it really help us as they stated the last couple years?

We haven't exactly gotten any better, yet the teams we have played have seemed to do just that...

Don't know about that. Went to the Sox-Cub game last Saturday. Sorta enjoyed it.

Even if it doesn't help us, which I think it has helped individual players, I still see no harm in doing it. Recruiting is the one thing I've heard of real consequence, and we have a couple weeks right now to hit recruiting hard, and if we play at home a couple games it hopefully wouldn't put a huge strain on recruiting.

If JL says we need to go recruit so no, then I'm fine with it, but other than that I see no real reason there.

BUT, unless they all of a sudden have an epiphany and decide they want to get Edge, DSE, Jake, AT, and Milos minutes, I really don't see where this helps us...

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see Chris be able to put on a jersey again, but I just don't see anything helping this team until they decide to

a) get a new coaching staff (assistants)
b) get a new system
c) get some players that are willing to play 40 (gonna be tough to lose Chris as he is one of 4 guys willing to do so)

d) ALL OF THE ABOVE

Maybe it doesn't help, But what is the harm in doing it?

Not sure it really hurts anything other than maybe the pride as from everyone I have talked to, not many will be going to a CIT/CBI home game...

So the 4,500 crowds may hurt some feelings...

My point exactly. No reason not to, unless JL and the players don't want to or JL wants to concentrate on recruiting. As far as the fans, they will do what they want and I won't tell them what to do, but I will support the Braves no matter what they decide and will watch every game they play in.

While I don't see Les putting in MK and AT considerably more, this is an opportunity for JE, DSE, EM to keep improving. I really want to see EM back on the court and gaining his confidence back. I know Les wants to win the whole thing, but I hope he sees the value of getting the younger guys more P.T. and trying new things. I'd like to see DSE and JE on the court more together, as they will be their JR, SR years. Please don't play SM & AW more than 30 minutes!
Well, who knows if they'll even play another.

SM, DD, DSE, and JE have shown they want to play for 40 minutes (at least they give all they have for the minutes they get.)

I think the team has given much better effort since the UNI upset. (aside from the 1st half at Indy St.)

Would less than 5000 show up for a 1st Round game in Peoria if we were to play against Northwestern?

And NIT-ology has them and Bradley on the NIT bubble, which they put down as being in the CBI or CIT.....I highly doubt not many would show up then, and actually I think many would change their minds about being in it all together. That could also help recruiting if we beat them.

I'll go to Welsh-Ryan Arena to see BU get destroyed by Northwestern. That makes for a fun trip!

I only play in the CBI or CIT if we get UNC or UConn or another BCS school.

I haven't seen NIT-ology, but IMO (and maybe TAS can add his opinion), I think Bradley is no where close to the NIT and I would say Northwestern isn't either.

I can't see UConn missing the NIT. I also believe UNC gets into the NIT. Arizona is close to not making NIT, but they may slip in.

Here's some BCS schools that may not make the NIT and could be in the CBI and/or CIT:

Georgia
Alabama
Colorado
NC St
BC
USC
Oklahoma
Colo St
Iowa St
Northwestern
Miami, Fl
Providence
Michigan
Virginia
Auburn
Arkansas
UCLA
Oregon
Rutgers
Nebraska
Wash St

Maybe some of them would play in the CBI/CIT, maybe some won't.
