Upset in the Brewing

More upsets in the making as #13 Murray St up 62-60 on Vanderbilt with under 2 minutes left. I was waffling between picking MSU or Vandy, but went with Vandy, though that's as far as I had them going. So either way not a big deal if I lose this game, but I already picked a 13 seed in Siena, so I did not want to tempt fate twice! :D

Also #14 Sam Houston St. giving Baylor a battle, tied at 46 with about ten and change to go.

And Murray St. pulls off the upset with a buzzer beater, 66-65!

Looks like I might have picked the wrong #13 seed, though Siena might pull this off later on too! :D

What a day so far for the middies! Love it! And yes, I picked Murray State in my bracket.
I don't pick every mid-major, but I root for every one of them. It's great to see them have a moment in the sun, a moment on national television the power conferences enjoy all year. Let's keep this tide rolling -- good luck tonight, Panthers!

Go Racers!

Love the upsets! Especially by the midmajors over the majors!
Just hope the MVC can get a win.

Talk about the major screw though...

Look at your brackets guys....

Today UTEP (mid) plays Butler (mid) and now the winner of that game faces Murray State (another mid)...

Not only do the little guys get little pub and less teams, they also have to now play each other....

Yeah, way to go NCAA & CBS!

So people were upset about Notre Dame being a 6 seed, maybe they shouldn't have been. ODU wins 51-50

Notre Dame getting a #6 seed is about as ridiculous as it gets..
They were arguably the 8th best team in their league and loses to Loyola Marymount, and half the lower end of their own conference should have proved it..
They are a classic example of a team that does NOT pass the eye test, but got in anyway and gets a #6 seed when team that beat them out in their own conference got a #9 seed and no 8th best team in any conference got a seed that high...

ND getting a 6 isn't as ridiculous as UTEP getting a 12 and having to play Butler in round 1....thats simply a JOKE!

but it makes sense in light of the obvious bias..
ND gets a #6 because it is a selection committee gift...
UTEP gets reamed, then Butler gets jabbed by having to play the toughest #12 seed in history - of course both are mid-majors

Well, Butler up 49-37 at last check with under 12 to go as Butler was on a 22-4 run. So either UTEP wasn't nearly the challange people thought they would be, or Butler is really good! Good to see Butler playing well, and maybe they can go pretty far.

I believe Butler is a Final 4 quality team! I love the way they rebound as a team. One guy boxes out while another guy goes for the ball. They really look like a well oiled machine and will be a formidable out. They rarely waste a possession and in the NCAA protecting the ball is one of the best stats to see how well a team has done. Teams with a low turnover rate usually do well.

3-point barrage early in the 2nd half. They have tied the record for most 3's in a first round game...

I agree. They are were one of the most impressive looking teams of the day so far. Let's see how far they can go.

I filled out four other brackets on ESPN, and as a lark, in one of them I had Butler winning the national championship! Not like it's without precedent that a 5 seed can win the whole thing. So we'll see how things play out.

Now hoping UNI can pull out a win over a great UNLV team! :D

The seeding of both these teams is a travesty! How did ND get a higher seed then these two? I'm a Maryland fan and I do not see how they got a better seed then UNI much less better then Butler. I really hope that the top mid-major teams wipe up their competition.

FYI - B4L, I did pick UNI to beat Kansas.

Don't look now, but #14 Ohio is manhandling "#3" Georgetown (quotes intended :D) 63-46 halfway through the second half! Why I picked Georgetown, I'm not sure considering they always seem to choke during the first round of tournaments. But I did not think Ohio was that good considering they finished ninth in the MAC this year. That 14 seed is actually pretty generous for them, but apparently, so was the 3 seed for Georgetown!

The Big East. How about the Big Least. Notre Dame, loss. Georgetown, loss. Marquette, loss. Villanova, lucky win. I'd look for Pittsburgh to lose to Oakland. So far it's high seed teams 6 and low seeded teams 6. This could end up being a March Madness to remember.

Let's hope! I wonder what all the talking heads will say or spin it! I'm pulling for SDSU!
