Kirk Wessler editorial 3/31

thank you for revealing that story -- but local high school coaches and AD are hardly in the loop of what's going on at BU -
and as I said elsewhere - in eight years of Jim Les as head coach not a single real detail of any part of his contract, the terms, the pay, the length, etc..
has ever been made known for certainty and all is speculation... but this rumor "knew" way, way too much with too much detail....so how did others not KNOW it appears ludicrous on face value?

There have been KW columns in the past that were just plain wrong, and people here have pointed them out.

When Wessler wrote that "Better Days Were Not Ahead" for this year's team after a mediocre start to the conference season...you were very quick to label him as 'wrong' and blast his opinion there...
I'd say, in the end, he was right...you might be the one that was "just plain wrong" in that instance.

Of course you can. Everyone does it in every walk of life.

If something is true or is a valid opinion, you can agree with it.
If it is wrong, you can disagree and call the person out for their mistakes.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, and some are right and some are wrong.
The biggest difference between KW and the rest of us is that he gets paid to write something, whether he has anything to say or not, and whether he is right or not.

some opinions are wrong?....I'm not sure I agree with your opinion here:)

Post of the Morning IMO...

It must be hard to jump all over someone for months upon end and saying he's worthless and out for blood and then all of a sudden in one moment say oh wow he couldn't be more right...

I mean I know even a blind squirrel can find an acorn every once in awhile, but most of us were ok with those of you that just seemed to think he was an a-hole and stick with that rather than being all wishy washy about it.

Please just pick and side and stick with it.

In that column, KW said Bradley would not get better and that they were headed for the Thursday play-in round. They did not, and shortly after he wrote that, Bradley knocked off Top 25 ranked Northern Iowa and advanced in the MVC tournament to the semifinal game.
I think that qualifies as being wrong.

Don't you think opinions can be wrong after time plays out?

People here said we would be finish at the top of league. It was their opinion...people are wrong all the time whether they write for the paper or on a message board.

isn't a newspaper's job to be sure before running with a story...
the headline, front page story saying John Wilkins had committed to Iowa State is just one example, but there are others
where they've said things than later had egg on their faces....like saying Manual Cass had verballed to Bradley, like calling Eric Gordon a pile of ***, like making the claim that Bruce Weber angered the Chicago CPL coaches by calling one of them the "N" word, Liesse's complete and total misquoting of some fans and trashing them over the Jamar thing...etc...
considering the number of blatant errors and bad moves, their track record is certainly way worse than some message board posters.....(although not as bad as some..)

Obviously we didn't head to the play in but we also were just one game and a tie breaker out of it....

AND

Where did we get better?

We did finish in the 4/5 AGAIN and lost in the semis AGAIN...

How is that any better than what has been going on the last 3 years?

Yeah he may be wrong in parts but he was also right in articles too...

Jump all over him by all means, its your right, but don't act as though you haven't said something blatantly wrong as well...

I do recall earlier in the year you really fully believing that we would finish 1st or 2nd....

But wait...that was before we lost Pre-Season Valley Player of the Year, Pre-Season NCAA All-American, and future NBA lottery pick Dodie Dunson...with Dodie, we clearly would have gone 31-5, won the Valley, won the Valley Tournament, and we'd now be preparing for our matchup in the Final Four with Duke on Saturday night...

I will tell you that I am the one who passed the information onto BigDaddy. I got a phone call while in St. Louis from someone who had heard it from a local high school A.D.

I never passed it to anyone else, and I did not post the information on the internet either. I assumed it was a rumor.

I also did not believe that BU would do it right before the LOI period.

It is interesting though that I heard this story/rumor from an unusual source.

I heard about the same story...weird timing, but it seemed to meet up with the other stories I and others had heard. It was from what I believe to be someone very close to the school/program.

I think I'd like the rumors more if they were about which bcs school wants our coach.

I remember SLU fired Brad Soderberg early-mid april a few years back, but that was a very unusual circumstance.

This is just as bad as saying "everyone likes Wessler now". Who exactly is saying these things?

Dodie was, in FACT, our best returning three-point shooter.

But hey...never let the facts get in the way of a good argument! ;-)

Exactly!

Again, kind of like saying "everyone likes Wessler now" or "we lost Pre-Season Valley Player of the Year, Pre-Season NCAA All-American, and future NBA lottery pick Dodie Dunson...with Dodie, we clearly would have gone 31-5, won the Valley, won the Valley Tournament, and we'd now be preparing for our matchup in the Final Four with Duke on Saturday night... ".

Really? Where are people reading these things?

I think the volume was just turned up on something that was probably going away...hmm. :doubt:

I do hope that before this all does go away, that some of the people who were so sure about the validity of this rumor that they criticized others who doubted it will admit they were wrong.

ER -we heard endlessly how Indiana State did such a great job - one site named their coach as COY and people said they'd have been in the top 3 in the Valley had they NOT had players lost to injuries....you recall??

Guess what...Bradley had considerably MORE players lost for more games than InSU or anyone else in the league..
yet we cannot mention the injuries??

Gosh thats funny, because I don't recall Sammy breaking his foot or Taylor hurting his calf OR Chris blowing his ACL out...

As much as you want to play up losing Dodie, losing him was not nor will be as big as losing Marshall, Lathan, and Kelly....

Just curious.....what exactly did Kelly give to that team that I seem to have missed?

disagree

their record against the weakest part of their schedule when they HAD those guys was not much different than their record against the toughest part when those guys were missing..
Hard to explain if you argue those guys were HUGE difference makers...

Like I said, their main rotation of players missed 39 games - (Marshall 7, Lathan 12, Kelly 20) our main guys missed more than that...
I just disagree that they were hurt so vastly more than we were and yet we were told you can't use injuries as an excuse..

Is sarcasm really that foreign of a concept to you? Try reading up on it somewhere, you might enjoy it.

Kelly was giving the Sycamores 9.0 ppg and 1.5 apg, and 30% on threes.
As I have said before, I think Kelley's injury did not hurt them, because Printy and Lathan played more, and they were better.
Marshall's injury was more significant, but he only missed 6 games because of his injury.
