Why must it always be assumed that players are forced to leave? If I were told by my coach that honestly there's some very good players ahead of you on the depth chart and you may be hard pressed to find playing time the next 2/3 years, I think I'd strongly consider leaving. Nothing wrong with a little honesty from coaches.

I think it goes more like this.

"Oh hey. Sit down. It is "John" right?

"Yeah coach...hi"

"We saw that you really sucked this year but we still like you as a person. we have a ESPN top 100 recruit we really like and....well....can you leave? We made arrangements with a nice school....called Alcorn St. in the SWAC. You may have heard of it? We really think you will like it."

"well coach."

"ok see ya. *phone rings* yeah bye..hey john i gotta take this call. yeah see ya good luck yeah."

Why must it always be assumed that players are forced to leave? ....

unless you are John Wall, or unless the coach is as desperate for talent as Tim Floyd was
when he sprung for sleazy OJ Mayo who was on the take...
then it is the COACH who has control of the scholarships and the roster.
Even if the player says "I am leaving to find more playing time", then isn't it the coach who determined the playing time so it was the coach that determined this transfer, too!

Yes the coach determines playing time, but the player decides whether he will stay where he's at and help the team in other ways or transfer to another school and get to play.

It happens in every school. There is so much at stake for these coaches to win now! Maybe if these players were brought in to be student athletes and coach's job stability was based on academics plus wins and losses then we would not see these type of moves. I'm not blaming them. They are only making decisions based on the system thrown their way. Win and keep your job, get paid more! Lose and you are out of here.

Matt Pressey is the brother of Phil Pressey who is a highly ranked High School senior PG out of Dallas and is an incoming freshman at Missouri in 2010. Matt and Phil are sons of Tulsa University star Paul Pressey (loved watching him play against Bradley). Missouri coach Mike Anderson was also on on the Tulsa team with Paul Pressey.
