Article about Dodie Dunson

I also thought it was appropriate to revive this thread dedicated to Dodie...

did anyone notice that Dodie was fully dressed and went through full warmups before the game last night...?
That was really nice to see.
this doesn't mean he's going to play (Jordan Prosser also is dressed and goes through warmups)..but..
it's a really good sign and says our guys are recovering and their conditioning is going well......also
some of the players interviewed after the game gave props to Marcus Ohnemus their trainer for all the great work he does getting the guys into shape...

Go Dodie, keep up the work and we miss you....
and work the guys hard in practice to keep them honest!

I had a chance to talk to Dodie a bit in Carbondale. Dodie participated in the pregame shootaround. However, he has not been cleared to play or for any contact. There is no chance that he will come back and play this year.

We wouldn't want that even if he could, right? There's no point now. I look forward to him stepping into CR's spot next year and giving us that great defense and leadership and occasional burst of offense.

I had a chance to talk to Dodie after the game. He is a great kid. I wished him well on his rehab / recovery. Gave him some grief for leaving Illinois State too, but in a friendly way. 8)

Dodie has been dressed and shooting around for several games...this is nothing new. NO WAY BU should bring him back.

I restarted this old thread about Dodie...since's he's back to full workouts every single day and building strength....doing great..
It's been a long recovery and on Dodie's first left handed jam, I'm gonna stand and cheer for a full minute!!!

btw-- if you read this Dodie (and I think he knows who I am) after that jam I'm gonna find a way to slap you a high five even if it has to wait 'til you come of fthe floor...;
because you know where I sit..........;)

BTW -- a couple other links...they may have already been posted elsewhere...

I have expressed this before but I truely believed that even without any signing of a 5, though we really needed one, this team would be very good.

The MVC is a guard oriented league and adding DD after the experience DSE and Eastman got last year along with the play of SM we really have a very good back court. DD will make a huge difference if only for his defense. But he is along with DSE capable of going off the dribble into the land and finishing. A guard who can penitrate and finish is huge in this conference.

Dodie is unselfish and doesn't always look to shoot...and some may doubt his offensive abilities...
but remember this game??

Dodie came off the bench when BU needed a little offensive spark and poured in 16 points in short order in the first half...
including four 3-pointers in a row....before breaking his arm in the 2nd half....
he can be fine scorer.........and I wouldn't be surprised if at times he does put on a display, but with so many other experienced guys who can score (AW, SM, TB)
Dodie may play a lower profile supportive role, whatever it takes.....

I think people have extremely underrated DD at times. People want to start TB at the 3 and start 2 posts without DD starting. Well to start 2 true posts either TB would have to be a 6th man with starters minutes, or we will have to only start one true post because we need DD in the lineup IMO.

Without him in the lineup, who would our number 1 defender be on the court to start out? Who is going to finish at the basket? Who is going to be our shooter out there on the perimeter when AW is having an off night? Plus the fact that he is a leader out there on the floor, he has to be out there starting IMO.

I truely think this season JL must address what he has always said and that is he plays the ones who give the best effort. And I believe the best effort or most important is on the defensive/rebounding end. If you do not play quality defense and do not rebound you do not play. This program has lost way to many games in the last few years because of lack of rebounding, losing players on defense and not defending the lane. Over and over last year we let shooters alone to burry jump shots with little or no pressure.

For all of his ability to score/shoot Andrew Warren really needs to step up his game on the defensive end of the floor. I really hope that he is beyond is feet issues, because to me he was not explosive nor quick laterally and he did not use proper defensive priciples last season. Hopefully it will come down to improved conditining. Because before the foot injury he was great at deflections, steals in passing lane and did not get beat off the dribble. He was also very explosive on offense at going to the rim and finishing. Seems last season he settle alot for contested jump shots

He had 50 steals two years ago, 26 this year.

If I'm a guessing man I'd have to say that with the depth in the back court we will be pressing teams and we will see a wide range of a rotation depending on match ups. Where we may lack depth is at the 5 even if MO shows up. WE will probably still spend time there but hopefully he'll be our starting 4. If that is the case and JP can can contribute quality minutes there's no reason we should not be playing for the MVC title. If the guys put the time in during the summer this should be a real good team.

I would love to see some more pressure. More full court could help hide some of our perceived weakness in the 5 spot Dare I say that I think we have the best group of guards in the league and it's not even close? Let's try a 5 guard offense and put a few people over the edge...5 best play regardless of position...make the other team's worry about marching up with us!

PS - I'm looking forward to seeing that first jam by DD!

Who are you not starting if WE is at the 4? Who are you starting at the 5 as well? MO? We don't know that much about him yet. If WE is at the 4, you have to be taking one of SM, DD, AW, TB out of the lineup. I think we need them all in the starting lineup.

Yes I'm saying and I'm hoping MO can start! WE is a true 4 and that is where he will be most productive for us. I really do not care who starts and I hope there is no ego on this team regarding starting or not. Do you also think TB is a 4? I also believe he could do a lot more damage as a 3. I'm not saying they would not spend anytime in the latter or when we go small for match up but it would be nice to bring DD off the bench with DSE. :-o

Here is my problem with DD not starting, like I stated before, who is our number one defender? Who is the guy who is going to take there number 1 perimeter guy and shut them down like CR? DD needs to be out there to do that. Plus 3 point shooting is huge in college basketball, because 3 guards usually play, and we need 3 perimeter threats on the court. Even teams that play a SF, usually have one that has a good perimeter skill set.

No I don't believe TB is a 3 in college basketball at this point. His outside jumper and ball handling skills were not yet good enough as of last season to be a 3 IMO, typically a guard spot in college basketball. Not a knock on him, that's just the type of player he is, and he is amazing at what he does. I feel DD has to be starting to have the most effective lineup. I think people forget how good he is.

I hope MO is good enough to start too, but I don't want to put that pressure on him right away. I feel TB should start too, but if you want 2 posts in the lineup, I think TB has to come out because I just don't feel he is a 3 skills set wise yet. I agree about WE being a 4, but I think that is what we have to do with current personnel.

Minute distribution at this point without final scholarship filled IMO:

SM(25)/DSE(15)
DD(25)/JE(10)/DSE(5)
AW(25)/MK(8 )/WL(7)
TB(25)/JP(10)/WE(5)
WE(15)/MO(20)/AT(5)

BUfan14 We are better then last year but not a bunch with your lineup. I believe you are greatly mistaken about TB not being able to play the 3. He is made for that position and his defense would be stellar. Now he can guard guys his height! The outside game can come from AW and SM! I love DD's game but he'll be great coming off the bench. Again my lineup is if MO can start!

I will agree more with your lineup IF TB can improve his outside shot and his ballhandling this offseason. Also while he definitely has the ability and athleticism to be a tremendous perimeter defender, I thought he was a little raw on his defensive principles and footwork at times last year.

Now TB has unlimited potential, and if he keeps his head on straight and works hard at his defense, along with fine tuning his outside shot and ball handling he could be a perfect 3 no doubt. I don't think he was quite there last year, but I guess we will have to see this year. He was most improved this year, and he could do it again, and sophomore to junior year is typically a big jump.

I still feel my lineup would be fine, because we would have the best players in when needed including DD, and we could go big like I have with JP and WE at the 4 at times when we need that and put TB at the 3.

Either way at the end of games, I'm sure the hot hands will be in with all the depth we have and that is what counts. I think we can both agree, all that depth no matter how it is arranged looks very exciting! :D I'm sure JL will figure it out and do what's best.

Hard to go to more pressing on defense if BU doesn't have a long, athletic, dominant defensive center who can alter short jump shots or keep opponents from taking it to the rack if the press is broken. BU still needs to find a center that can guard opponents without help.

BU hasnt had that kind of post player since POB/ZA...Hopefully JP and MO can provide that for BU in the future if AT doesn't develop in his last two years. Don't know if WE is strong enough, or long enough, to fill that role for BU if they want to go to a smaller line up and press/trap more.

In the absence of getting an NBA bound shooter, improved interior defense and rebounding by bigs would go a long way to helping BU move from 4th to 1st in the Valley. Hopefully new players, more experienced players, and better coaching can help BU's inside game.
