Sam Smith on possible Bulls coaches

If the Bulls follow typical Bulls protocol, they'll go on the cheap and have a presser saying that their 5th or 6th guy was 'their guy' all along.

I'd like to see either Scottie Pippen or Reggie Theus coaching the Bulls. Don't ask me why, I don't know, I just think they would do a good job. How about this one which I would also like - Dennis Rodman - that would really be interesting :)

Are you on drugs?

Opinions?

Opinions?

Why don't you like me, can't I have an opinion? Why can no one have an opinion other than yours?

In Article 7, Section 4 of the bylaws defined herein, "No Opinions Allowed" only factual statements that will be later verified by the PJS. Although I thought we were free to trash talk another school's program at will. Now it seems even totally harmless ramblings and rants are 'out of bounds'! So just to be safe I prefer to sit it out and let DC and T provide all of the news fit to be printed, that way we don't have to worry about speculation, rumor or opinions! So just read, accept and follow along like a good little boy!

Where did I say that I didn't like you or that you couldn't have an opinion? I merely asked a question.

I concur! BU Rick what meds are you on when suggesting Dennis Rodman as a coach for any team. Maybe the same as Dennis Rodman??:-o

I lost all use for pippen when he refused to come off the bench. Should have been released right then, no matter how good he was. I didn't like Noah and his actions when he played for Florida, but the little I like about pro basketball I like the way he plays now.

I'll answer your question and the answer is, no medical pills. I've reached the age where my body is going to do what it's going to do and I'm fine with whatever happens. My advice to you is to drink a lot of water every day, water cures a lot.

Can you see that I don't like doctors.... but anyone reading this.... don't listen to me, do what's best for yourself.

If DR coached our bigs....we would win the valley instantly.

No we wouldn't. They'd disregard offense completely, just like Rodman did. While our bigs could certainly use his defensive and rebounding skills, they do need to be offensive threats. We don't have MJ, Pip, Toni, and Kerr to kick the ball out to the way Rodman did.

Ummm getting back to the topic of head coach.

I think the best choice is Tom Thibodeau. He is regarded as one of if not the best defensive coach in the NBA. Not a glamorous choice and after the Vinny choice I doubt the Bulls go conservative.

That means pretty much either Mark Jackson, Larry Brown, Mike Woodson or Avery Johnson.

Rodman or Pippen give me a break.

In the ME FIRST NBA, Calipari would be a perfect fit. He likely would also have no problems developing relationships with potential free agents.

But can he coach.. he can recruit but can he coach the spoiled brats of the NBA?

I want a solid head coach. No more experiments with the Bulls.

Cal wouldn't be an experiment. Not even close. With the exception of Scott Skiles, he'd be the most accomplished NBA coach they've hired in decades. If you recall Doug Collins, Phil Jackson, Tim Floyd, Bill Cartwright, Jim Boylan, and Vinny Del Negro all were given their first shot at NBA head coaching by the Bulls. Cal already had that learning experience with the New Jersey Nets a decade ago. The Bulls under Jerry Reinsdorf have always gone with cheap, inexperienced coaches. It's what they do, and a big part of why they're bad. Cal would be going against their normal philosophy, which is something they desperately need to do. Plus, he's already got an established rapport with our best player, and is good friends with the agent of several of our free agent targets. I'm not saying Cal is the best candidate for the job, but I think he's a pretty darn good one.

Just my opinion but I think he is an experiment because essentially his failure with the Nets. No one has any idea what they would get from him as a head NBA coach except he was a disaster with NJ. I do not like nor trust college coaches who now become NBA head coaches.

I will agree if you are going college he is the best choice for the Bulls situation.

The examples you used which one of those besides Jackson had any success or wasnt replaced/fired pretty quickly?

I want an NBA guy, not some sideshow, me first full of himself like Calipari for which he is the poster child.

You are right though the Bulls are cheap and would never pony up 4mill + for a head coach. And they shouldnt there are better options for less out there.

I don't think there are better options for cheap. The cheap guys are unproven, and we've had enough of that. We've already gone the assistant route and have gone the route with a guy with zero experience. It's time to invest something in this team, coach included. The guys I would want in addition to Calipari (Van Gundy, Jackson, D'Antoni if Jackson ends up with the Knicks, maybe Byron Scott, maybe Doug Collins) are all going to cost money.

What makes Calipari's attitude any different than most other NBA coaches? David Stern's entire marketing philosophy is based on the individual. The guy made the playoffs with the Nets, and by all accounts has matured since his first NBA run 10 years ago.

Anyways, enough of my Cal rant. He's a longshot at best, both to be pried away from a well-paying Kentucky job, and also because the Bulls never make good hires.
