Summer exhibition tours already started

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but the NCAA changed a rule that is important to these teams playing international competetion this summer and fall-

The NCAA has reversed a long-standing rule that incoming freshmen had been ineligible to participate in preseason exhibitions, prior to their enrollment in school in the fall. Now, even the incoming freshmen are eligible to play in these games.
 
Teams about to head out of the country for their foreign tours..

Pitt (Ireland, 7/29-8/), Kentucky (Canada, 8/15-17), Michigan (Belgium, 8/20-27), Idaho State (Canada, 8/16-19), New Mexico State (8/8-16), Memphis (Bahamas 8/14-18 ) , Northwestern (Italy, 8/16-28 ), Nebraska (Bahamas, 8/13-21), South Dakota State (Canada, 8/23-27)
 
Pitt goes 3-0 with a 110-61 shellacking of an Irish amateur team..
They led by almost 20 by the mid-point of the 2nd quarter, cruised easily to a 30 point lead in just the first 3 minutes of the 2nd half.
This is probably nice for the deep subs, but the starters would obviously get a better workout just playing down at the "Y"...
 
Pitt finishes their tour 6-0 with an 82-69 win over a British team...

High Point Univ. has landed in the Bahamas, they will play 2 games, Sunday & Tuesday
 
Kennesaw State loses their 2nd Canadian tour game...79-72..
Despite that they appear to have a little height advantage on their Canadian opponents..

The entire USF team is playing as the American representative...

Valpo wins 1st game 119-54 - not a whole lot of benefit to playing teams this bad, you might as well
play a bunch of intramural kids on campus and save the air fare...
Ex-SIU guard Brandon Wood had 18! Ex-Iowa State forward Cory Johnson had 14.

-Kennesaw State won again to go 3-1 beating LTD Mississauga 90-56 - they have one game remaining

-High Point beat the Bahamian All Stars 104-84, but they didn't take the lead until the 2nd half - they finish 2-0 and have no more games on their tour

-In their 2nd game in Brazil, the University of South Fliorida Bulls trounced a rather hapless group from Chile 103-31!! In his blog, the coach's son Jordan Heath says this..
..............."We played against the arrogant team from Chile today. Before the game started some comments were made to the few USF family members we had here by the team members of Chile. We came out with a vengeance and responded with a 103-31 victory."
.........sounds like there's not a whole lot of sportsmanship being parlayed there!!

- in their first game in Canada, New Mexico State barely beat McGill 80-76 - then beat Vanier College (anyone ever heard of them??) 88-57 in Montreal.

-Valpo won their 2nd game 118-59 over Pioneros de Cancun - with ex-Saluki Brandon Wood ripping the nets for 26 points!! So far not a whole lot of challenge for Valpo.

Future Illini opponent North Carolina beat a hastily put-together Bahamian amateur team 130-87..incoming freshman Harrison Barnes had 21 points, and Tyler Zeller finally got a chance to show his skills and had 22 pts, 13 rebs. UNC's Larry Drew injured his ankle and sat out - and may not play on the tour. Will Graves also had ankle problems.

New Mexico State beats McGill, then loses to Dawson College in Canada 74-68!

Valparaiso go to 3-0 in Cancun with a 107-58 shellacking of Rebotera de Cancun ("The Cancun Rebounders")

South Florida continues their Brazilian tournament, beatng Brazil in a very close game 64-63..in which the final shot by Brazil was originally counted as a 3-pointer apparently sending the game to OT,
but then it was changed to a 2-pointer giving USF the victory.

Kennesaw State won their final game in Canada 75-70 over the amateur Guelph Phoenix, finishing their tour 4-1

Northern Arizona University beat Canadian University of Lethbridge 106-72


Lastly, a group comprising the "USA Basketball Select Team" scrimmaged against some NBA players in rpoeparation for their trip to Turkey to compete in the World Championships...

Northern Arizona lost their 3rd game on their tour...getting hammered by 24 points ...
but then bounced back to go 3-1 by beating University of Calgary 80-63. They have one game remaining.

South Florida finally ran into a tough Brazilian team and lost 69-63...gaining the Silver Medal in their Pan American University Championships...

High Point won both of their games in the Bahamas

Kentucky won their first exhibition in Canada by more than 30 pts...95-62..but the halftime score was a lot closer, 43-35..

as one might expect...Calipari played & showcased his new young superstars in an effort to impress everyone into just conceding the entire SEC season and just awarding him the title...

Incoming freshman star Brandon Knight - dubbed by some as the "Next John Wall"....played 29 minutes, launched 19 shots and finished with 31 points...playing even while the Wildcats had a 33 point lead in the final 3 minutes...
Three other starters, Hood, Miller, & Harrelson played right to the final buzzer at the end of the game

Darius Miller had 18, DeAndre Liggins had 10 -- but the two of them combined for only about as many shot attempts as Knight hogged..



BUT -- this isn't the most lopsided blowout exhibition that occurred yesterday...
Memphis blew away an amateur team called the Cyborts in the Bahamas 142-64......having beaten another team by 70 the day before
Memphis actually had a 34 point lead after just ONE quarter!!
Ex-BU recruit Wesley Witherspoon had 15 pts, and ex-SIU commit
Drew Barham, now a walk-on at Memphis, HAD 26 -- hitting 7 of 11 treys!
 
6-9 freshman Terrence Jones of Kentucky was injured and went for an MRI disclosing a rib fracture, so he's out at least a month..
 
Kentucky is a little short handed on their Canadian tour -- but through no fault of anyone but Calipari -- as his recruits aren't all going to be qualified to play and Cal sent a lot of the other players packing including all the walk ons.....

Anyway, they hammered yet another hapless Canadian opponent yesterday by playing their starters the entire way...

Three of the starters played 32 minutes or more, and the five starters played 150 out of the 200 available minutes --
averaging 30 mpg, with the backups playing just 50 minutes total - and averaging just 16 minutes each...

This game was a bit closer -- with the Canadian college team hanging within 9 pts for half the game, but UK blew out to a 28 pt lead and won 96-68....all the starters playing right 'til the end.
All five starters were in double digits for UK, but UK allowed 47% from the field for Western Univ. and 46% from 3-pt...rebounds and fouls were even but UK forced 28 turnovers...using a full court press pretty much the entire game...
