Creighton at Northwestern

The game was on Big Ten network on cable...
Northwestern runs a good offense, lots of movement and people getting open..
Creighton seemed satisfied to jack up a lot of long 3's...(where they were 4-21)
...amazing that Northwestern - a school with 20K enrollment - doesn't draw more than 3-4000!

There are only 9,000 undergraduates. A lot of the graduate schools are downtown (Kellogg and the law school). They've never made an NCAA Tournament. Their campus athletic facilities are impossible to get to. The game was on the Sunday night after Thanksgiving. What do you expect?

Creighton faded in the 2nd half and Nrthwestern won easily-

Young, McDermott, and Lawson all had good games, but Creighton didn't get much from anyone else.

I think Creighton will improve about halfway thru the Valley season, but right now, a lot of kinks to work out and trying to form their identity. I haven't seen guards from CU struggle like this in years! No good outside shooters from what I see. Korver, Ashford, and Wragge can get hot, but not consistent.
McDermott will be pretty good in the Valley. Just has a knack for getting easy buckets.

I watched the game last night and Creighton looked woefully like ISU did under McDermott. Not much movement on offense and content to settle for long, contested threes. And Lawson scored zero second half points as Creighton did not find a way to get him the ball in the second half much like ISU failed to find Brackins last year. Not sure what is so difficult about McDermott's system, but I never did see it run well in Ames. Hopefully he can find the right kids to do it in Omaha.

I wasn't overly impressed with CU, although Doug McDermott already looks more capable inside than our post players do. I don't think he's more talented than Egolf or Prosser, so that's kind of depressing.

Sad to see how far the MVC has dropped since its heyday in the 2005-2006 seasons.

How could the Conference waste all that success by not building on it with better marketing, recruits, coaches, and scheduling?

Missed opportunity...

There are only 9,000 undergraduates. ..

but there are 19310 students enrolled on the two campuses (according to the registrar's office)
....I am also post-graduate and even when I was a post-grad still in school -- I still remained loyal and went to as many basketball games as possible..

so regardless, they have twice the undergrads and four times the students overall as BU has, and they have an enormous alumni base in and around Chicago --
and they still draw only a little more than a third of what BU draws for basketball games...
I think that's a remarkable fact..............must be they just don't have or develop loyal fans..

At what point did this become a BU-NU thing? Are we that hard up for pats on the back? NU has probably the worst basketball tradition in DI, why would they have any type of fan base? Not to mention NU is in Chicago, where there are about a million other things to do besides watch bad college basketball. How is it remarkable? Would you be going to BU games if they had the record of success NU has had over the past 50 years? I highly, highly doubt it.

And they have loyal fans, just take a look at how they travel to bowl games. They generally just don't have a lot to cheer about in any sport outside of football since '95 or the women's lacrosse team, which isn't much of a revenue generator.

And they just beat one of the supposed "better" teams in our conference! :(

Agreed. Sad.

I don't know....Cubs fans continue to do it and it's been twice that long!

NU has never been to the NCAA Tournament, and in fact have never really been that close to even making it...the Cubs may have a title drought, but relatively speaking have been nowhere as bad for as long as NU basketball has been.

What is pathetic about that? They are Chicago's Big 10 team, and have a much better record of success the last 15 years than any other team in the state. Facts are facts.

Because EVERYONE knows that Illinois is really Chicago's Big-10 team. Hence, the need to state the obvious.

Sadly, Illinois football generally gives no one anything to cheer for. Don't see what makes the ad campaign 'pathetic'. It would be like calling a Bradley campaign 'pathetic' for claiming to be 'Peoria's Basketball Team' when there are more Illinois fans in the Peoria area then there are BU fans.

Chicago's fanbase is a PRO sports team 1st. Nwestern competes with Bears,Bulls/Cubs and BHawks.

Depaul and Nwestern BOTH have to win..win alot...win often and STILL will drag when it comes to attendance.
