Max Bielfeldt getting a lot more recruiting interest

tornado

PJS does a nice story on increased recruiting interest in max..
http://blogs.pjstar.com/prepsplus/2011/01/04/recruiting-interest-rising-for-notre-dame-senior/

but I continue to be kinda puzzled why every single article on Max feels compelled to pigeon hole him as "a mid-major player"..
I say let the free market and Max himself decide........
we've seen plenty of BCS schools throwing scholarships down the toilet by offering useless, total projects of big men who average 3 ppg in junior college, so how anyone can say Max doesn't have a chance to do any better than Ball State puzzles me...

You're such a font of information tornado that your recent increased interest and defense of Bielfeldt leads me to believe that BU really IS on this kid. ;)

The way I look at this situation is if we get Max fine. If Max goes elsewhere I won't be disappointed! Prosser is the big from the area that I really wanted!

Bradley has shown very little interest in him during his whole recruiting process. He was invited to their elite camp and played extremely well. Had not been contacted by Bradley or shown interest from Bradley until very recently.

Anyone that says Prosser is better than Bielfeldt is sadly mistaken. Prosser wasn't even close to putting up the #'s Bielfeldt has in a 1a-2a schedule. Max is doing it against everyone at the 3a-4a level. And don't tell me its because he hasn't played anyone his size... Plenty of teams have the size to compete with him, plus they consistantly double and triple him...

He is a monster enough said.

Jordan didn't have the really good and complimentary teammates and surrounding players that Max has and at times, JP was Eureka's only option so he even got quadruple teamed...
and Jordan did pretty consistently get 25 pts & 15 rebs...and they did play a decent schedule, admittedly not as strong as PND's this year......

Did you used to work for the PJ Star?

Biefeldt is half the athlete Prosser is, is shorter, and has shorter arms. His post moves may be marginally better, emphasis on the 'may be'. Prosser had much stronger interest from much better schools than what Max is getting now, so obviously others on the AAU circuit saw in JP and Max what most of us see. If Max grows 2-3 inches then he becomes a legit prospect. Right now, he's a low to mid-major prospect getting additional interest because it's spring and pickin's are gettin' slim. I wish him luck and hope he has a great college career. His best shot at a great college career is at the low to mid major level IMO.

No I don't have anything to do with any newspaper or publication.

Prosser had alot of interest early in his high school career because he was mobile and pretty athletic as freshman and soph. Max took a little bit more time to get his mobility to wear it needs to be and is alot more athletic than most people think. He has put in a tremendous amount of work to change his body and athleticism.

Please name me a big guy Prosser had to play against that could maybe bang with him? Cody Funk (during his freshman and sophomore years?). Stop trying compare Eureka's competition vs what PND has played...

Manual: Watson, Roddy, A. Jordan
Central/Woodruff: K. Jordan, Kellum brothers, D. Lawson (now at limestone)
Richwoods: Cole, Fraizer, Anderson (Not all that big but physical)
Brother Rice: Egwu 6'10 (U of I Recruit)
Morton: Lundeen, Bisping
Galesburg: Victor Davis
Gary Lew Wallace: Brandon Dawson 6'5 (Mich St. Recruit)
Rock Island: Denzell McCaulley 6'8

Thats just quick thought of who Max has had to play against the last 2 years. That have size comparable to him. Compare Prosser Eureka Schedule to that and let me know what you come up with.. No comparison my friend! I think Prosser also had some of his scholarships pulled because schools either filled with other players or didn't think he blossumed into that high major kid that they thought he would early in his career.

Comparing HS stats and competition for college players is like comparing college stats and competition for NBA players. It's pointless and gives little indication of what kind of player someone will be at the next level.

Meyers Leonard played against small school competition in high school. Is Max better than him too? What about Mike Tisdale? Him too? Both were small school guys not playing against the great competition night-in and night out like Max. :-o

I like them both and wish BU would add Max to the team...watched both play a bunch of games...and think Max would fit well...

I think some may be forgetting that Tyler Les was on the same team with Max and I am sure JL has a pretty close relaitionship with Max via that bond...guess we will see how it pans out...

Quite possibly yes...
I think if Max were allowed to play 10 minutes per game against the opponents that U of I has faced, I believe he'd do at least as well as 2.7 ppg & 1.6 rpg, with 1 assist and 10 TO and only 57% FT shooting...

I guess the whole Big 10 is missing on this guy.

Maybe someone should email Roy Williams and Coach K and let them know what they're missing out on.

If Max is this great talent, and Tyler Les was a DI player (which he currently is), why wasn't PND better last year? With a blue chipper like Max one would think that being teamed with a DI guard would make them unstoppable.

Tyler Les is at a D1 school yes... You don't think his father might have some pull to get him there. My mind his was no where near a D1 player. Sometimes its more about who you know then what you know....

I didn't compare Bielfeldt to Meyers Leonard or Mike Tisdale. Both are 7'0+ ... One is a freak athlete who is very unpolished... Other is a skilled finese big that gives very little production inside. However I never compared Max to either of those. However, I would say that Meyers and Tisdales # would probably be a little lower in high school if they played a tough 3a-4a schedule.

I compared Max to Prosser who is bout the same size who happens to be playing at a midmajor.

And if you don't think comparing stats and competition is relevant to players going onto the next level (no matter what that is) your sadly mistaken...
