I Knew It! Didn't Last A Day...

AZ BU Fan

New member
My "Quit Trying to Change People's Opinions" thread was hijacked by a certain poster and turned into a pro-con JL thread and subsequently wiped out by the Mods!

Didn't last a day without descending into a pro-con thread...

Once contaminated, it should have been moved to a separate "You Be The BU AD" Forum, as proposed, where everyone who wants can duke it out, without gloves, on the best head coach for BU....

But noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo:roll:

I appreciate the initial intent of the thread, but the quickest way to get a thread deleted is to turn it into a back and forth between posters.
We get the most complaints from our members because they do not want to keep clicking to read new posts and have to be subjected to personal arguments that should be dealt with through Private Messaging.

I agree AZ. I think many on here want to have a serious debate. I think individual posts should be pulled. But what happens is that the serious points that you and many others make get pulled.

Again, I know the response is...IF you don't like it leave. I was told that today. But, I do think many people on here have good points and it would be nice to be able to discuss them...from both sides.

Ohh I see, I misunderstood the rules - I thought we were only allowed to post in a thread, regardless of initial topic, unless we at the very least ended our post with a mention of whether Les should be canned or not.

Don't want to speak for the majority, but I don't pay to use this site. Therefore, whatever the powers that be do here they can use their judgment. I'm hardly a cheerleader for JL right now, but it's hard to jump into a topic debating the same ol' thing.

Yes this season is lost, I get it. But if JL does come back next year, we should expect him to win every game. As far as I'm concerned, he has to win all of his non-con (exhibition included!) and win the MVC to come back the year after.

The talent is there, I'm just sick of hearing how "lights out" in practice a player is when they appear for a few minutes on the floor.:roll:

The discussion in the chat the oter night was very good...and I think members of opposing sides attended....

AGREE 100%! And will actually try to adhere to this guideline!

I am not against pro-con JL posts, debates, arguments, just don't make/hijack every other post in the Basketball Fan Talk to do so....

Since this subject is not going to go away until next season, I thought we could contain the debate in a unique Forum where any post/thread would be moved to if it involved a JL debate! Utopia!

Of course I was not real serious about this, or, upset about the thread I started getting canned. I just like to stir the pot...I could argue both sides of the keep/can JL debate with gusto without losing any sleep over it.

It actually was an experiment to see how long it would take to descend into a pro-con JL debate when it didn't start out that way...;-)

WARNING PRODUCT PLACEMENT! Don't forget to enter the BF.com MVC Regular Season Pick Em for Game 9 ...Entries Due by Sat Jan 23 3pm CST!

A hardcore/explicit so to speak portion for just that stuff wouldn't be a bad idea though...

Would give all a chance to discuss the future and in a sense would make it easier for the mods to not have to delete threads and posts just to do so...

I do wish there was a way to pull individual posts and not whole threads. I get the feeling there are massive amounts of posters on both sides of the issue who feel like they're being censored when they're not really doing anything wrong.

It is possible to edit individual posts, and usually we do that and most of it goes unnoticed. But there are 2 or 3 main reasons why threads get deleted. One- it takes a lot of time to cull through active threads to find the posts that should be deleted, and none of the moderators here are paid or have time to do that in every case. Two- sometimes posts are deleted from a thread, but more posts just keep reappearing that are objectionable or violate the rules. And three- sometimes threads themselves are inherantly in violation of some of our rules.
Example-Since there is not a coaching vacancy, we won't allow a discussion of who should be our coach, or which players should leave. And it's acceptable to critique the play and coaching, but not to direct insults at coaches or players.

Feel free to make your opinions known, but the problem we are encountering today stems from some posters who go beyond posting their own opinions. Posts must be done with civility and within our rules, and posts must not insult or attack others who don't agree with you or who support a different opinion. That won't be allowed.

And who attacked who exactly in said thread?!

It's a bit difficult to make an opinion known if it consistently gets removed...

Especially when there is no profanity or anything involved....
