Today's Bradley Fun Fact

I still wonder why Bradley doesn't field a non-scholarship football program. If Drake and Butler can do it, why not Bradley?

According to this Wikipedia entry, Bradley and Creighton were talked about as possible members of the Pioneer Football League in 1992.

Basically, I'd like to see a football team at Bradley for one main reason...so people would stop wearing those lame "undefeated" T-shirts.

Well, If we have a winning bowl record, that automatically prevents us from joining the Big10 ;)

I agree 100%. And no offense to our nationally-renowned soccer program, because enough cannot be said about what Jim DeRose has built from scratch - But football, even if just Pioneer League Football, would make fall athletics and homecoming at BU so much more 'real' and garner so much more interest both locally and nationally.

Sadly, BU just does not have the money to start even a Pioneer League football program. It's probably a good thing though, because if we did I would get even less done at work in the fall, and would immediately start trumpeting a move to DI/FBS using the Tulsa model.

Another fun fact - BU football enjoyed a 21 game unbeaten streak during the late 30's, including a tie with Illinois.

According to wikipedia, BU played in the Corn Bowl in 1956, 59 and 60. We lost to Western Illinois 21-3 in '56, beat Minnesota State 10-3 in '59 and beat North Dakota 21-17 in '60.

If we had played Illinois, we would have crushed them.

Another BU footbal program would be AWESOME! It would cost a ton of money and is probably the most unlikely thing to happen at Bradley in the foreseeable future.

I would double my donation if BU brought back the football program even in a Pioneer League capacity. Unfortunately it takes more than just little ole' me to make that happen!
