Reynolds: Latest BU plan lifted from MO...

I thought it was that she thought no coach should make more than her?

Actually thats not on JG....thats a Bradley rule that the President is the highest paid employee on campus....so remember if you bring in a name who wants more than $500k/year than JG would also get a bump to go with the buy-out of JL....your looking @ a lot of money!

She knows how the gig works and what other coaches in the league make...

this is silly bashing of the President.

Lets give her the time to make a hire before we decide what she knows or doesnt know.

Lets not pretend that this is the only hire that determines what she knows or doesn't know. She has made plenty of moves or influenced others behind the scenes that have created her reputation.

I have heard our big problem with hiring a new coach will be JG!!! Her philosophy is the AD should be making more than all the coaches on staff because he is in charge of all of them!! Also rumor has it that all that job should pay based on that philosophy is 200k or less!!! That will make it hard to get a hot New prospect....We will end up with a guy like the baseball coach nice guy with an overall loosing record...And same goes for Volleyball also overall loosing record but a nice gal...JMO!!!! or not?

rumors.rumors.rumors.

all completely unsubstantiated.

But a new basketball coach will be one of the things that cements JG's legacy on the hilltop, the other hires come into programs where the standard of success does not compare to the results that fans demand from men's hoops. This was not her hire, but it acts that way when you consider how many donors consider JL an untouchable idol from his playing days, and the S16 bid. We all don't know what's on the minds of JG, but I can assume that she knows that Bradley basketball is more than just an athletic program---it is the promotional vehicle for an academic school and ties together both alumni and non-alumni (primarily local) who come together at Carver and cheer the Braves on.

I'll be honest, when I heard JL's qoute about changing the system to the recruits....kind of got me scratching my head.

The underlying statement I got from the piece was that we have come full circle and we are right back to where we were 9-10 years ago with Mo! Sounds to me like maybe he is saying if it wasn't good enough for Mo, why should it be good enough for JL?

The thing that keeps coming up in my mind is that this is not the administration that hired JL. Who knows how they will look at things? Will they look at his overall record? Average finish in the valley? The number of injuries and off the court issues? The amount of money he has helped to bring into the school? I don't know. But it should be very interesting to see how it all plays out!

Her reputation is well earned...Not my point..

Still this will be the hire that defines her stay here, with most of the city.

Do you really think there are people who think JL should get a lifetime contract? I don't.

Like I said, whatever coach the president has a hand in choosing will be one of the things that people will determine as her lasting legacy. She was not here when JL played, nor was she here the year he went to the S16 or the NIT year after that. She can take a gamble, tell the wealthy donors who love JL no matter what to pound sand and find a new coach (if a vacancy is there), or keep JL and not buy him out and have him implement his system with the new recruits AND have a team practice with the new facilities. I'm not guaranteeing first place MVC here next year, but at this point I'll take anything above cellar.

Hopefully there will be a lot of people involved in the hiring of a new coach, do not let our Pres. do this on her own.

Once again, do these people actually exist. Are there actually people who at this point think he is untouchable and want him as the coach no matter what forever and ever amen. I hear these people referred to all of the time, yet I have never met one.

At the end of the day it doesn't really matter to me if JL tried a different tactic vs WSU the other day on the road. Why not try something different than what they used before in Peoria?

I didn't expect a depleted BU to compete with the top of the MVC this year.

What does bother me is BU hasn't been successful versus the bottom half of the MVC this year (so far).

Looking back, this shouldn't have come as a surprise since BU was picked to finish 5th in the Valley with 3 preseason All MVC players on its roster.

BU is suffering a worse fate than 5th in the Valley with only 1 of the preseason All MVC players left on its roster for 2010-11.

As shown by the preseason prediction of 5th in the Valley with a full team, the rest of the BU roster this year doesn't have the talent/experience to compete this year. Regardless of what the "Dean of the MVC Head Coaches" cooks up for this team.

BU has more chances this season vs ISU R, EU, SIU, and Drake so I will only offer a conditional statement.

If BU can't win 3 out the 4 games left vs these teams yet this season, the BU program needs LOTS more talent than just SM and TB back, and the recruits on board so far for next year to sniff the top of the MVC.

Im not worried about this..

BU is a quality job.

I want BU to have a coach leave for a better job. would be a great problem to have.

Don't lose faith in the school.

We made a bad hire, IMO, but I am confident we can make the next one better

Bad hire, emotional decision. But emotional decisions DID get me Butler in the final four of my Sweet 16 Bracket last year! haha.... Course I had Northern Iowa and Notre Dame playing for the championship.....:oops::oops:
