4 MVC games Sat. 2/12

No Player of the Week for Rayvonte Rice this week...he was just 2-9 and missed all his 3-pt attempts...9 pts.

Indiana State's Jake Kelly is out yet again -- this time with mono...
over his last 10 games he's averaged only 6 ppg, and 2.6 rpg...
Just about everything that could have gone wrong for Jake since he left Iowa has gone wrong...

Don't look now, but Wichita St. is in the process of blowing another game! UNI on 15-6 run to cut the WSU lead to 50-44 with 11+ left.

I kinda hope UNI wins as they have the best resume of the top three teams. Then after BU is done disposing them on Tuesday night, they can win out! ;)

7-0 run for WSU after UNI cut the lead to 50-47.

On further review, I hope UNI loses so they can be demoralized when they visit Bradley Tuesday night! :D

Wichita State has absolutely buried UNI down the stretch. The Shockers now lead 71-48 with under 3 minutes left. UNI hasn't score for 7 minutes.

Wichita State finished the last 3+ minutes with the deep subs in the game against the UNI starters. Still UNI can't do much and lose 73-55.
Wichita State is 7-0 on the road in the MVC. Their only 3 losses are at home. They and MSU still look like legitimate at-large teams if they don't win the tournament.

They were on a 23-1 run (!) at one point to make it 73-48 before UNI scored the last 7 points against WSU's scrubs. Talk about collapsing in the stretch!

With the way we have been playing lately, this is a team that at least theoretically we should be able to handle Tuesday night.

I think they both deserve to get in as well. If they continue to win out and play each other the final game for the championship, they have both done enough in my opinion to make it. Had WSU finished the job against UConn earlier in the season, they would have been a shoo-in already. But despite that loss, the most certainly passed the "eye test" tonight and probably should be in just because they have the look of a well disciplined team.

Now I know we will both get flamed for this because I'm sure some posters will say that both teams did not get quality non-conference wins. So what?! There are plenty of other factors that go into this selection process, two of them being records in the last 12 games and road records. Both teams have more than fulfilled the requirements in those two departments. And finally, if that WSU loss to SIU is enough to keep WSU out, that's a crying shame because the last I checked, Illinois and Michigan St. have had even more questionable losses and they are still solidly in, particularly Illinois. Both WSU and MSU have done what have asked of them so far, so I believe they should both be dancing come Selection Sunday.

And one of those factors include quality wins, something you lack when you do nothing OOC. ;)

It's also a bit too early to use Last 12 in any argument because a good 2/3 of the games that will make that stat up haven't been played yet.

I do like both WSU and MSU's chances, considering BracketBuster will offer reasonable chances at resume-boosters.

Did I see this correctly on the box score that In St. drew 10,200 for the Drake game? Was there some promotion? Did someone corporation or wealthy booster buy a bunch of tix so they could declare a sellout?

Surely this can't be legit, the Hulman Center is usually a morgue.

Yes, it was a special sellout promotion called Fan Appreciation Day.

Each year for the past several years they have had this promotion. Boosters and corporate sponsors buy up all the tickets and offer them as free giveaways to anyone who isn''t a season-ticket holder. Since all tickets are sold, it is recorded as a complete sellout of 10,200. However, not all the tickets were claimed, and from what I have been able to find out, the actual attendance was only a little more than their usual attendance and nowhere near a full house.

This is all true, particularly the BracketBuster. I think it would be in both of their best interests to win their respective BB games, especially WSU since they already lost to UConn and MSU.

I think some of those fans also showed up to see a very good Indiana St. team this year, something they have not seen in a decade. While they still have a little ways to go to feel comfortable about any NIT chances, a solid third place finish might get them there even if it's a first round road game. Their fans should be proud of what they have accomplished this year and that's a big reason why a lot of them showed up last night, promotions not withstanding.

of course there weren't 10,200 there, people who were there guessed there were around 6000-7000 for the men's game, and maybe 2000 for the women's game (right after the men's game ended).

ISU's attendance #'s have been up this season and should continue to rise in the next few years if the team keeps winning

but you're right, it's considered a sellout because all the tickets have been purchased
