BU vs ISU postgame

And again......THAT'S their team! I could be wrong, but I don't believe they are missing anyone. People think JL hasn't done a good job assembling talent.....just be glad we don't have Jank!
Yeah, it really sucked getting to the Valley title game twice in back to back years.

ISU lost a lot of scoring with Dinma and Osiris. The guys who we thought would step up and score didn't this season. ISU fans give him a pass this year, but next season a Thursday night finish won't cut it.

Makes you wonder what BU staff saw in JW?

You know, it's funny. Three years ago, I talked with someone very close to the program, and their comment about JW was a demonstrative, "he's a man!"

I don't see it.

It's impossible to predict how players are going to adjust to the next level.

He is not a guard. Yet he is being played exclusively as a perimeter guard.
He could become a dominating player, if he played closer to the basket. IDK if it by his motivation or choice of his coach's choice, the talent he does have is being wasted.

He showed nothing last night. I've seen him in the low post earlier this year. Ok, there was nothing else on tv at the time. The returns are early, but JW looks like he might have been slightly over-hyped. Maybe not such a huge loss for BU.

I'm not sure exactly how. The kid is a beanpole and his best skill right now is his shooting. I think this is pretty clear. He may have been able to get some points in the paint against Bradley, but you are also one of the smaller teams in the valley. We were able to take advantage of some mismatches with having 3 big guys out there. He can't muscle up against bigger teams, because he doesn't have any.

The plan is to get some bulk on him so he can bang down low with the rest of them. Once he is able to do this, then he should be able to stretch defenses with his ability to shoot the 3 and play down low (this has been the plan all along). Same really goes for Ekey too. That kid has a good verticle. Add some weight/muscle so he can fight through traffic and make it to the rim and you have two players who will be able to play with their backs to the basket as well as shoot the long one.

Wilkins and Jank may see him as a 3-point shooter, but he is never going to excel at that. His best position would be as a 3 or small 4 player in the MVC. Since most 4's in the MVC are not real big and strong, his skills would gice him some advantage. Most 3's in the MVC are more like guards, and JW would have the skills, and height advantage there. He does have superior skills, we just haven't seen much of them yet because of him playing essentially a 2-guard slot.

.... Wilkins is looking to transfer. His 4 points in the post was too much for his liking. He wants to find a school that will never put him in harm's way in the paint...

If this is the correct, then Wilkins appears to be a bit of a head case. He certainly has time to improve, but it is evident to everyone that Wilkins is playing out of position.

Here is the teams 3-point shooting stats. You tell me if he should be taking shots on the perimeter for a team that cannot shoot the 3? He's the best we got at it this season (stats from after WMU game).

Wilkins .359 28-78
Cousin .328 22-67
Ekey .323 18-59
Rubin .313 21-67
Blue .305 18-59
Hill .275 11-40
Clark .264 14-53
Smith .200 1-5
Upshaw .125 1-8
Carmichael 0-2
Lewis 0-2

Do you think we shot well enough to beat anybody tonight?

I believe the reason we lost last night was due to the poor performances by our seniors (DD & AW) - not to pin it on them, but if either had a decent night, we win. I didn't expect their seniors to outscore ours.
We truly need 1 more perimeter shooter next year, as we know that SM is pretty accurate from there.

A few losses we've had, I've blamed Coach. But I didn't really see too much to pick on him about - other than putting JE down low again, where he is clearly overmatched.

Just so bizarre that in the last 3 ISU-BU games, there have been commonalities:
BU had a 10+ pt. lead
BU led for the whole game until the last 2 minutes.
BU lost by 1.

That's what makes these last 3 so hard to digest.

I took it as a facetious post by an ISU guy. Are there such rumors?

No.

Reports say he loves ISU and knows he has a lot of work to do over the summer. He's just too weak to play the post and not qucik enough to be an effective wing.

I think BU fans get an altered view of JW because they see him play against Bradley. He can't do what he did last night against any other team. Everyone else has someone better than Eastman to guard him in the post.

His rebounding had gotten much better, and he seems to be adjusting to the physicallity. He just needs an off-season on campus to grind out in the weight room. We'll see what our new stregth coach can do.
