Cal Tech (Division III) had not won a conference basketball game in 26 years (01/23/85).....but beat Occidental 46-45 last night to break that streak
http://www.timesonline.com/sports/article_06191315-c364-5193-b1ed-fbf934d1b014.html

they also lost 207 consecutive games (regardless of conference or non-conference) in a streak that ended in 2007.

The team they beat, Occidental, played several D-I schools this year...
-they lost to San Diego 83-66 and Darian Norris had 13 pts
-they lost 76-48 to Cal State-Fullerton
-they lost to San Diego State 93-50 and Brian Carlwell scored 7

they have a 100% graduation rate and none of their players have been arrested..

Average starting Salary for Cal Tech graduates: $71,000. That is the highest overall starting salary for any school in the entire country. Even cost of living adjusted it is near the top. I think all the BBall players will probably do alright... ;)

You'd think NCAA would have better things to do but....

they dug out and found what they believe are violations at Cal Tech - so are they going to take away the only basketball victory that Cal Tech has had in their 310 game, 26 year losing steak???
http://msn.foxsports.com/collegebasketball/story/Caltech-facing-NCAA-sanctions-071212

Note that this "violation" IS A MERE TECHNICALITY...all the athletes were just fine with grades and academics -
it's just that Cal Tech had a program where their students could start their classes 3 weeks early -
thus, since the school year or semester had not yet started in NCAA's eyes, while taking those classes, the students
were not considered full time students - and so if they even practiced, they did while while "ineligible" in NCAA's eyes!!
