PJ Star- BU guard asks for release

I think one of the consequences of him leaving is he won't go down as one of the best to ever play at BU.

My unofficial math says he has 1210 career points at BU. In 08/09 he had 454 points. If he stays and has an equally good year he would finish his career with 1664 points and surpass AW for the top ten in BU history.

I think he would also end up playing in more games than anyone in BU history. He probably has other milestones too. I do believe if he stays he could be one of the best ever.

If he has played his last game, then he was pretty good but not one of the greats. He will get his 450 at a new school and will soon be forgotten by them.

On another plane, where were these other schools when Sam graduated high school? Were they offering then? BU took a chance and gave him his chance. BU has something like $100,000 invested in the guy.

Isn't all this worth something? Even if it means not winning quite as many games next year? I don't know what is right for SM but I hope he doesn't make some knee jerk reaction and leaves just to show loyalty to his coach who is already gone.

Just saying.

Sam could have easily gone to a BCS school, he came to BU because he really liked JL and his dad played at BU. Now JL is gone and he (among many) does not like the direction BU is headed.

I was just bringing up how much tuition and fees were for any student who attends the university, which is public knowledge published on the BU website.

According to what Dr. Cross told Dave Reynolds, Sam has NOT asked for his release....

On another topic, Cross said BU guard Sam Maniscalco, who is thought to be headed to Illinois for his final season, has not requested his release from Bradley.

???Sam and I haven??™t talked,??? Cross said.

I think everyone needs to take a deep breath, relax and wait and see what unfolds over the next couple of weeks...

Dr. Cross only said "Sam and I haven't talked". That doesn't mean that Sammy hasn't asked for his release. For all we know, Sammy could've requested his release in writing and sent it to Prez G. And Dr. Cross. Since Dr. Cross is in Missouri at the MVC tourney, it would make sense that he and Sammy haven't yet spoken. The Journal Star did say that it was confirmed by two different sources.

Maybe Sam has asked...I dunno....but all I have to go by is what Dr. Cross said.

Why would he be at the MVC tourney?! :? :?

That was last week......

I was going to say that there was nothing new in that article aside from the fact that Sam is weighing his options. As you said Chucky, there is nothing in the article that says he definitely asked for a release, and the fact that the PJ Star has not named these "sources", we don't know for sure what's what. But even if he did, as has been discussed, there is a LOT of factors that could ultimately play into Sam's final destination next year.

So far Sam would probably have no issue playing for UIUC if he intends on working on his communications Master's which Bradley does not offer. But until any offical news comes out, there may be a long while before his situation is resolved.

I thought there was much new- NO ask for release, no offer to MAx?

I guess we should be careful about posting stuff from the paper!

Yes.....like people saying others here are cheering players for leaving and hoping the next coach fails, calling players traitors, quitters, or saying good riddance.

Those are all absurd statements.

Just being reported this hour from Conseco Fieldhouse while the Illini game was going on...
"-Sam Maniscalco update: The family requested a release from Bradley, with
hopes the school would grant the release by today - before students leave on
Spring Break. But it does not appear like that is going to happen today."

He probably saw how bad the Illini played and figured he could start for them no problem next year.

Don't let the door hit ya on the way out!

I feel better about playing next season without Sammy than I did this past season. DSE now has that year of experience and he will have Donivine as a capable backup. If all of the other pieces return we could have an interesting 2010-11 with the right coach.

it is not a done deal -- Sam has never uttered a word negative nor has he ever said he wants to leave -- he's still in school and has classes through May --
Again -- it's pretty petty to lob insults when we have no clue what is actually happening...

Not an insult. But he asked for his release. So that indicates he wants to leave. So I say thanks for 4 years, wish you'd stay longer, but we'll be OK without you, and best of luck at Illinois. Not sure what's wrong with that.

Sorry B4L but I'm with T on this one! Let's stop speculating on the players until it happens. Anyone getting a paycheck IMO is fair game but the student athlete should be treated a bit different.
