NCAA Tournament discussion

I think Utah St. was just as surprised

That's why they are my 12/5 upset. And I agree with Seth Davis regarding his three upset picks out of that region.

SO, no St. Mary's, Colorado, Alabama......and of course no Virginia Tech! :D

Time for the annual Seth Greenberg rant! Not that I blame him too much this time though.

Missouri State with an RPI of 42 is on the outside looking in (again). Their SOS hurt them as well as their lack of quality wins. I believe that I heard the announcers during the MVC championship game last weekend say that the regular season MVC champion has made the NCAA tournament every year since 1993 - if that's true, this year ends a long streak for the MVC.

Style of play?????? What is this committee chair talking about? You mean the "eye test" is a bigger factor than we all thought?

And why don't they just admit conference affilation (Colorado, Virginia Tech and the CAA notwithstanding) is a HUGE factor in their selections?

Finally, nice to see a national pundit like Seth Davis predicting a lot of upsets and not sticking with the status quo. I think some are realizing that the bracket usually does not live up to the seeding. :)

Cuonzo told his players that they needed to win the tour. to get in, Hinson knows exactly how they feel as he should have gotten 2 bids when he was coach yet got none and lost his job.

Not looking good for Missouri State. Hello N.I.T.

Missouri State with an RPI of 42 is on the outside looking in (again). Their SOS hurt them as well as their lack of quality wins....

I really do and then DON'T feel sorry for them and their fans...
this has been discussed a zillion times -- especially in the context of ISU the past 3 years...

If you are going to schedule a couple dozen 300+ RPI opponents, then you have absolutely NOBODY to blame but yourself....
BUT then UAB is a total puzzle -- their non-conference SOS was close to 200!!

BTW -- anyone notice how many times one of the talking heads has said...
"the eye test"
or
"style of play"
or
"their track record" (in prior years)....

why are those criteria even mentioned...how about who you play and who you beat?

USC gets in with about the same number of losses as BU had last year PLUS we beat them!
(not to mention their coach is a hot head and embarrassed the university and all of college basketball with his boozing & brawling)

UAB is in because they were the undisputed regular season champion of the #8 conference. The committee has rewarded those kinds of teams before, especially when those kinds of teams have RPI's near 30 like UAB's.

Hard to defend VCU though.

THE B10 GETTING 7 TEAMS IN STINKS.

Illinois getting in while losing 10 of their last 16 is terrible.

Well the committee deemphasized the last 12 games criteria, so this is no surprise.

I have to take a trip to the Illini message board to see how many people still want Weber launched!
