Tennessee Tech?

Tennesse Tech Scouting Report

Tennesse Tech Scouting Report

One guy picks them second in OVC behind Samford...........They are 1-2 on the year and play Wisc-Milw Sunday.

"Tennessee Tech could also give Samford a run for its money. The Golden Eagles, 19-12 a season ago, lost three starters, but they have a surprisingly experienced squad. Eight players received at least 15 minutes per game last season and their top two scorers -- Anthony Fisher (12.9 ppg) and Belton Rivers (12.0 ppg) -- return. Strangely enough, both came off the bench last season."

Yeah, I did notice that, but how good is the OVC this year? I know the perennial OVC champion, Murray St has a MAJOR rebuilding job ongoing this year! In other words, does Tennessee Tech have the potential to be as good as Murray St has been in the recent past?

Murray State only beat Eastern Illinois tonight, 53-50 in Murray which may be the very first conference game played this season.

As for Tennessee Tech, they truly are one of the most victory-starved teams in the land. They've become more competitive in the OVC recently, but I think it's only because Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee left for the Sun Belt Conference and the prospect of playing Division I-A football. The Golden Eagles have not been to the NCAA Tournament since 1962, and the experience was not a good one. They lost to Notre Dame in the first round of the Mideast Regional 110-40 :-o! They have come closer to capturing that elusive automatic bid in the past five years, but still haven't been able to get over the hump. I think they can play with Milwaukee on Saturday and head into Wednesday's game with a little momentum. It will be interesting to see how the Braves respond to tonight's loss.

Ya know, the older I get, the more I often I catch myself in a CRS moment (Can't Remember Stuff--yeah, that's it--Stuff). Tennessee Tech DID suffer a major blowout in their last NCAA appearance, but it was in 1963, not 1962. The team that mauled them was not Notre Dame, but Loyola-Chicago (the year the Ramblers won all the marbles). And, the Golden Eagles did not lose by 70 points, instead it was 69 (111-42). I DID check the stats for the game, and TTU was 6 of 7 from the foul line and an ungodly 18 of 82 from the field! Sorry for the misinformation--it wasn't intentional--just age !

Tennessee Tech goes on the road and gets a win at UW-Milwaukee tonight, 78-68. It's their first win against a DI this year. Coming off of an emotionally taxing game last night, unfortunately I think BU is going to have their hands full on Wednesday.

I listened to their VERY short postgame.

They mentioned the Bradley game coming up. They are encouraging their fans to come out big for the game. They are doing a double header with the women's team playing before the men's.

TTech Coach Sutton mentioned how they are gonna play an inside game in a battle against Bradley's outside game.

COACH SUTTON SAID MORE THAN ONCE: "WE NEED OUR FANS TO COME OUT FOR THIS GAME AGAINST BRADLEY. THIS IS THE BEST TEAM TO COME IN AND PLAY US IN A LONG LONG TIME."

I checked at collegerpi.com... it shows complete schedules back to the 93-94 season. He's right.

BradleyBrave - I, too, am worried about this game (and after a big emotional game). I remember when they came in last year, they looked very confident. They played very hard. In fact, we trailed by 4 at the half. They are gonna be ready for Wednesday - along with a road win to boost their confidence.

I remember them being very long and athletic last year, and actually giving us some problems early on. They have 2 very good guards. I don't have a good feeling at all about this week. We're staring at a possible 3 game losing streak after a 5-0 start.

I won't let that bother me.

Lost to a good Illinois team.
TennTech is gonna be tough.
Mich St will be really tough.

So what? Pack it in on the season?

For craps and giggles:

I say we can beat Wright at home.

Then we lose vs Iowa St.

Only to return and hold home court against Loyola and S Miss.

That's 8-4 in the non-con. Pretty good in a 'rebuilding' year.

Anything more is gravy.

Another thing about TennTech.

Yea, they finally got their 1st win so far this season. So far they had lost at Kansas State by 22 (101-79). Then they lost at Mississippi by 9 (86-77).

Winning AT Wisc-Mil is noteworthy because of what Wisc-Mil has done: lost at Michigan by 7 (66-59) and lost at Northern Iowa by 11 (69-58).

So by that, I think they beat a fair team tonight.

Tennessee Tech biggest guy is 6'9" and he can't play yet. They do have a bunch of guys at 6'7". The best one on the boards is Amandi McKenzie. He averages 11 rpg.

Against UW-Milwaukee, 10 guys played at least 10 minutes. Not much of a three point shooting team according to the stats.

Last year, TT was 12-3 at home and average 3,034 fans. It looks like they have a nice facility that holds just over 10,000.

After playing against Illinois Bigs ZA will be more comfortable and should get back to some decent inside play.

We got away from our game against Illinois and much credit is to be given to Illinois for TAKING us out but this was like many rilvalry games and some players try too hard.

Look for BU to get back to what got em this far. Better ball mvt., ZA with a few flushes and some good 3 point shooting.

DR will not try 9 threes and I expect to see a deeper bench...at least more minutes from DA and AW.

It will be close IMO but BU will be too quick and pumped to show everyone that 5-1 is no fluke.

....

I guess you could look at it that way, but I have a slightly different observation............

University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is almost, by all measures, exactly where Bradley is, but with one big difference.
They have been strong the past several years, they've had a recent coaching change, they had a recent Sweet Sixteen appearance, and they are coming off a great season where they lost to graduation a huge amount of their scoring and rebounding...but not even as much as Bradley did.

So, both Bradley and UW-M were similarly expected to have a huge drop off this season and fall to the bottoms of their respective conferences.

Here's where we see a difference.

At UW-M...they haven't had anyone step up and they really are a pretty weak team. Sure they have a couple close losses, but in reality they are 2-5 with their only two wins being HOME WINS over really, really weak teams (Radford & South Dakota State). South Dakota State remains 0-6 and may not win a game this year, and Radford has only beaten a couple of perennial 300+ RPI opponents.

But Bradley has surprised most by doing great so far this year, at 5-1. Bradley HAS HAD a couple of players step up and become fine team leaders (JC, Ruff, Zach), while UW-M is still struggling to find an identity.

Rob Jeter will be a fine head coach but presently he is struggling a little like Jim Les was in stretches of his first couple seasons.

Tennessee Tech's coach, Mike Sutton, was the coach stricken by a rare neurologic disease Guillain-Barre syndrome. He was in a wheelchair last February and was making one of his first trips with the team since returning from being out many months with the illness that began in April, 2005. It sounds like he is slowly getting better. The second link below describes that he has more movement in his arms and legs and is now able to walk with a walker, but he still uses a wheelchair to get around..

We won't lost to Iowa St. I fear the Tenn Tech game more than that one.
