Missouri State loses several key seniors- Keandre Cook, Tulio Da Silva, Lamont West, Ross Owens, and Kabir Mohammad. That is more than 60% of their scoring from this past year. Plus there have been rumors of multiple other players looking to transfer.

Today, the first transfer was announced- 6'7" redshirt-junior Josh Hall, a part-time starter who averaged 5.2 ppg & 4.1 rpg, announced he had entered his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal. He will be a grad-transfer who will be eligible immediately with 1 year left to play. Hall had 17 points and 9 rebounds against Bradley in the game Feb. 19 in Peoria.

Evansville- K.J. Riley
Illinois State- Zach Copeland, Ricky Torres, Jaycee Hillsman
Indiana State- Jordan Barnes, Bronson Kessinger, Christian Williams, (Redshirt Sophomore Tyeshon Martin transferred)
Loyola- Bruno Skokna, Jake Baughman
Missouri State- Keandre Cook, Tulio Da Silva, Lamont West, Ross Owens, and Kabir Mohammad, (Redshirt Junior Josh Hall transferred), (Freshman Tyem Freeman transferred)
Northern Iowa- Spencer Haldeman, Isaiah Brown, Luke McDonnell, Justin Dahl, Lincoln Conrey, (RS Senior Shandon Goldman transferred)
SIU- Ronnie Suggs, Barret Benson, Eric McGill,
Valparaiso- John Kizer, Ryan Fazekas

When injuries occur during the course of a season, the school doesn't apply for a medical redshirt until after the season ends, since one criteria is that the player cannot compete in a game after the midway point of the season. I have talked to the Bradley team doctor in the past about what it involves. It is fairIy complicated and involves sending in detailed medical records, reports, Xrays, and doctors' letters. I am pretty sure both SIU and Drake have done or will do that for Cook and Murphy, but it will take a little time to get the final word from the NCAA. But there is no reason that it won't happen for both.

Btw, I happened to sit behind the family of Tremell and Anthony Murphy during the Friday March 6 afternoon session when Drake beat UNI and the Bradley-SIU game was next. I could tell they were Drake fans, but didn't realize they were the Murphy's family until Tremell came up and sat with them after the Drake-UNI game was over. I congratulated him and asked him if he was returning next year. He said "for sure".

Josh Hall, a grad transfer out of Missouri State , says he is receiving interest from Georgia Southern, San Diego, Cal State Fullerton, Washington State, and Hofstra.

Looking at where those programs are, it's hard to say any of them are a significant step up from Missouri State..

Valparaiso- John Kizer, Ryan Fazekas

Another MVC player enters the Transfer Portal.... Redshirt junior Brendan Gooch will graduate and have 1 more season of eligibility. Because he qualifies as a grad-transfer, he will be eligible immediately.

The top conference teams have plenty of good players coming back. Off the top of my head, Bradley will be hard pressed to win again next year. Hope I am wrong.

Another SIU player enters the Transfer Portal- Harwin Francois, a junior college player who came to SIU last spring as a late recruit for Bryan Mullins and had 3 years of eligibility left. He averaged 4.2 ppg, but was one of their better 3-point shooters off the bench at 37.8%. Only Marcus Domask who shot 39.7% had a better 3-point FG% for SIU, which finished 9th out of the 10 MVC teams in 3-point FG%. He has 2 years of eligibility left

Players leaving the MVC (transfers in bold)-

Bradley- Koch Bar, Darrell Brown, Nate Kennell, (Freshmen Stephan Gabriel and Sean Houpt transferred)
Drake- Anthony Murphy, Antonio Pilipovic, Brady Ernst, (Redshirt Junior Samm Jones transferred as grad-transfer)
Evansville- K.J. Riley, (freshman Marcus Henderson transferred)
Illinois State- Zach Copeland, Ricky Torres, Jaycee Hillsman (Sophomore Rey Idowu transferred)
Indiana State- Jordan Barnes, Bronson Kessinger, Christian Williams, (Redshirt Sophomore Tyeshon Martin transferred, and junior center Christopher Agbo transferred)
Loyola- Bruno Skokna, Jake Baughman
Missouri State- Keandre Cook, Tulio Da Silva, Lamont West, Ross Owens, and Kabir Mohammad, (Redshirt Junior Josh Hall transferred as grad-transfer), (Freshman Tyem Freeman transferred)
Northern Iowa- Spencer Haldeman, Isaiah Brown, Luke McDonnell, Justin Dahl, Lincoln Conrey, (RS Senior Shandon Goldman transferred to Tennessee Tech as grad-transfer)
SIU- Ronnie Suggs, Barret Benson, Eric McGill, (Redshirt junior Brendan Gooch will transfer as a grad-transfer, juniors Harwin Francois and Stevan Juremic are also transferring, and redshirt freshman Karrington Davis is transferring)
Valparaiso- John Kizer, Ryan Fazekas

Another SIU player is leaving the team and transferring out. Redshirt freshman Karrington Davis, a 6'6" "guard" was touted by Bryan Mullins as an impact player when he transferred in to SIU a year ago. He didn't play much and when he did his production was minimal- 11.7 mpg, 3.0 ppg, 1.6 rpg.

Bryan Mullins had to rebuild the SIU roster when he was hired last March. He landed 9 recruits-
https://thesouthern.com/sports/colle...402d47fd0.html

... and he had four leftover players from Barry Hinson's 2018-29 team- Aaron Cook, Eric McGill, Brendan Gooch, and Sekou Dembele.

Of the leftover players, McGill will graduate, Gooch transferred, Dembele is recovering from a severe fracture of the tibia and his future is still in doubt, and Cook was injured and will return next season with a medical redshirt.

Of the 9 new players Mullins brought in, only freshmen Marcus Domask, Trent Brown, and Lance Jones return from this seasons roster, and they will also have sharpshooter Ben Harvey next season, a transfer from Eastern Illinois who sat out this season.

So as of now, the only players SIU will have next season appear to be Domask, Brown, Jones, Harvey, Aaron Cook, and possibly Sekou Dembele. Plus, Mullins has 2 high school point guards committed- Eric Butler and Dalton Banks.
http://verbalcommits.com/schools/southern-illinois

So if no other players leave, that leaves Mullins with 5 (or possibly 6 if Dembele cannot return) open scholarships that he needs to fill at this late point in the recruiting cycle.

2 more ISU players leaving the team-
https://goredbirds.com/news/2020/3/2...g-careers.aspx

Muller is now down to only 5 scholarship players from the 2019-20 team who will be returning next season-
Keith Fisher- 9.6 ppg
D.J. Horne- 8.7 ppg
Antonio Reeves- 7.2 ppg
Dedric Boyd- 6.1 ppg
Abdou Ndiaye- 1.5 ppg

Bradley- Koch Bar, Darrell Brown, Nate Kennell, (Freshmen Stephan Gabriel and Sean Houpt transferred)
Drake- Anthony Murphy, Brady Ernst, (Redshirt Juniors Samm Jones and Antonio Pilipovic transferred as grad-transfers)
Evansville- K.J. Riley, (freshman Marcus Henderson transferred, redshirt-junior Artur Labinowicz transferred)
Illinois State- Zach Copeland, Ricky Torres, Jaycee Hillsman (Sophomore Rey Idowu transferred, redshirt-junior Matt Chastain and redshirt-sophomore Taylor Bruninga will end their basketball careers due to injuries)
Indiana State- Jordan Barnes, Bronson Kessinger, Christian Williams, (Redshirt Sophomore Tyeshon Martin transferred, and junior center Christopher Agbo transferred)
Loyola- Bruno Skokna, Jake Baughman
Missouri State- Keandre Cook, Tulio Da Silva, Lamont West, Ross Owens, and Kabir Mohammad, (Redshirt Junior Josh Hall transferred as grad-transfer, Freshman Tyem Freeman transferred, junior Tyrik Dixon transferred, freshman Ford Cooper transferred)
Northern Iowa- Spencer Haldeman, Isaiah Brown, Luke McDonnell, Justin Dahl, Lincoln Conrey, (RS Senior Shandon Goldman transferred to Tennessee Tech as grad-transfer)
SIU- Ronnie Suggs, Barret Benson, Eric McGill, (Redshirt juniors Aaron Cook and Brendan Gooch will transfer as a grad-transfers, junior Harwin Francois is also transferring, and redshirt freshman Karrington Davis is transferring; Stevan Jeremic was reported to be transferring, but not confirmed)
Valparaiso- John Kizer, Ryan Fazekas

The second Evansville player has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, and more may follow-
Redshirt junior Artur Labinowicz is leaving and transferring. He played 2 seasons at Coastal Carolina University (2016-2018 ), transferred to Evansville 2 years ago, sat out a year (2018-19), then played this past season (2019-20). He played a lot under Walter McCarty and interim head coach Benny Seltzer, but he never seemed to be a favorite of Todd Lickliter after he took over January 21. Prior to that date, Labinowicz was a starter for McCarty, played well, and averaged 25 minutes per game and 10.3 ppg. He scored a season-high 24 points in their win against Murray State, which was the last game they won this past season. But then, under Lickliter, he came off the bench and his playing time dropped to 12 minutes per game, getting lower as the season progressed. And he averaged only 2.6 ppg in the 12 games under Lickliter. In Evansville's opening MVC Tournament game in St. Louis, he played only 1 minute and was scoreless in a very close game that Evansville lost 58-55 to finish their season with 19 straight MVC losses. He clearly didn't have a future at Evansvile under Todd Lickliter.
Here are his stats-https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/stats/_/id/4067315/artur-labinowicz
Game log- https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/gamelog/_/id/4067315/artur-labinowicz

Because he spent 2 years at CCU and 2 years at Evansville, it is likely he will be a grad-transfer with 1 more year of eligibility left.

The Southern Illinoisan is reporting that Aaron Cook of SIU is entering his name in the transfer portal. Big loss for SIU.

Wow, yes that is a huge loss. That leaves three freshmen- small forward Marcus Domask, and guards Lance Jones and Trent Brown as returning players in 2020-21. Plus, there is a chance that forward Sekou Dembele will return, however, he suffered a severe fracture of his tibia in the game at Bradley, and his status for next season is uncertain.
Also, Stevan Jeremic was reported by SIU's beat writer as entering the transfer portal a week ago, but he is still listed on the SIU roster, and he has never been added to the list of transfers on VerbalCommits.com. So maybe he is staying?
https://twitter.com/THefferman/status/1242238216125779969

In addition, they will get transfer Ben Harvey, who sat out this past season, and they have 2 incoming point guard recruits Dalton Banks and Eric Butler, and a walk-on juco forward Will Keller is still listed on their roster.
It will be interesting to see what happens at SIU. I thought Bryan Mullins could easily have been the COY this past season, but he'll need to do an even better job next year with at 5 or 6 more scholarships to fill.

Drake's Antonio Pilipovic also entered the transfer portal today.

I'd say with all the players entering the transfer portal from the MVC, it's setting up to make BU the next dominant team of the conference if not for Indiana St. landing Tobias "TJ" Howard. Drats for that Lansing character and his recruitment skills!

Tommy, you are cruel. :)
For the record, T.J. Howard seems to be a poor-mans replacement for Jordan Barnes, so I don't see how makes them much "better". Indiana State really needs inside players. They basically have one big man returning- Tre Williams, who played fairly well for a freshman this past season. He is listed at 6'7", but I think he is not quite that big, and he doesn't give them much offense (7.2 ppg). He also averaged only 4 rpg, which is low for a post players who played 25 minutes/game. Former Bradley recruit Jake Laravia is listed at 6'8" and was impressive for a freshman, but he is not really an inside player. They have a couple 2020 recruits that won't make much of an impact, IMO- 6'6" juco forward Kailex Stephens, who averaged only 8.0 ppg and 5.7 rpg and incoming freshman Nick Hittle, a 6'10" center from a small high school who did not have any other D1 offers, and should probably redshirt, though he will likely be pressed into action because of their lack of big men.

I have looked over the '20-'21 rosters of all the schools and researched a bit about all the new incoming players. From what I see, it looks like the MVC will again have 3 tiers- Evansville, Illinois State, Indiana State, and SIU will probably be picked as the bottom 4. Drake, Missouri State, and Valpo will be in the 2nd tier, and Loyola, UNI, and Bradley will probably be picked as the top 3 again.
What does everyone else think?

I wish him luck. Idowu's skills will have to improve for him to become a factor at Tulsa, but it is a good school with a great basketball tradition and recent success in the American Athletic Conference under Frank Haith. This past season, Tulsa finished tied with Houston and Cincinnati for 1st place in the conference, but with their NET of 78 they would have been an NIT team. They lost to Memphis in the quarterfinals of the AAC Tournament before it was cancelled.

But what I'd be curious to know is how and why did Idowu decide to transfer to Tulsa so quickly? He entered the NCAA transfer portal last Friday PM (March 27). And now, less than 4 days later, he has already been convinced to transfer to Tulsa. I can't find that Tulsa was ever involved in recruiting him out of high school or prep school, so he probably wouldn't have ever met their coach Frank Haith or known much about the school or their basketball program. And we are in a strict NCAA recruiting "Dead Period" right now which does not allow for any visits, player evaluation, or face to face contact between coaches and recruits. So how did Tulsa head coach Frank Haith know who Idowu was or whether he wanted to offer him, and how did Idowu know anything about the University of Tulsa, their coach, or their program?

He attended the Bill Self school for recruitment
