Nice story in today's Milwaukee Journal-Sentinal on Dwight Buycks. It sounds like he is getting serious with his academics as well as with basketball.--

Buycks' team won tonight 63-50 over Milwaukee South to remain undefeated at 9-0 overall, and 3-0 in their conference, the toughest conference in the state. Dwight scored only 6 points tonight, but despite the off night, he is still averaging 22.4 ppg.

His high school, Milwaukee Bay View, has moved up and is currently ranked 6th in the among state high schools. But they will play 4 of the 5 teams above them because they are all in the same conference.

Sounds like this guy could be vying for some PT next year. He sounds cut out of the Phillip Gilbert/Joah Tucker/Hersey Hawkins mold of a do-everything, big, strong guard. PJ Couisnard also comes to mind as someone Buycks resembles. Sounds like the big boys were after him pretty good, and sounds like he's excited to be a Brave. Also, and most importantly, it sounds like he's really committed himself to qualifying for school. This is some great BU news at a time when I think we all need some!

Sam Maniscalco and the St. Patrick Shamrocks have been off since last Saturday when the won the consolation bracket of the Proviso West Tournament. Their next game is Friday night at home against a pretty good team, Marian Catholic High School.
Some of our older Bradley followers might remember the last Bradley player from Marian Catholic of Chicago Heights (Frankie Sylvester 1967-1971).
Sam is averaging well over 20 ppg ans has lead his team in scoring every game this year.

Anthony Thompson is also having a good year. He doesn't always score big because he plays on a team with several other Division I bound players who score a lot. But Houston Klein Forest is one of the top rated schools in Texas.
Anthony scored 16 points to lead his team to a win tonight--

Will Egolf's team is 2-1, and plays 2 games this weekend. They make their first road trip of their season to play Friday and Saturday nights at Sitka High School.

DeAaron Williams lead ICC in scoring again last night as ICC won again to go to 14-1. They remain the #1 ranked team in the nation in Division II junior college. Here is a link to the other thread about DeAaron and last night's game--

And 2008 recruit Daniel West is having a great year, too. He is playing both the poiint position and the off-guard position. His team, Saginaw High School has risen from 6th preseason to the #1 ranked team in the state of Michigan. There are some awesomely powerful teams in Michigan, and Saginaw has started out with an undefeated record.
Their last game was a big win over Chicago Marshall High School, the #2 ranked team in Illinois. Daniel West had 10 points and 11 assists.

They play next on Friday at home against Midland high school.

In Will's team's only loss, Will hardly played at all because of foul trouble.
He was able to only play a few minuites in the first half and left with 3 fouls, then immediately picked up a fourth in the 2nd half, then barely returned as his team did so poorly without him in there, that the game was out of reach.

Here are some pictures of the game, but Will was on the bench.

Here are some pics from last game, the both of which do show Will Egolf:

By the way-- Will Egolf's games are covered by the local Juneau newspapaer, the Juneau Empire.
Their website is free, but you still have to register to see the articles, etc.

If you don't want to register, just PM me and I can give you my signon and password.

I think all these recruits are going to to be good; we still need a center with experience if we expect to contend next season; D. Ruffin, J. Fears, J. Crouch and the rest of these players could be a pretty special team if we could get a center that can score and rebound consistently; we do not have time for our freshman to develop as it may take a couple of years before they are ready to contribute on a regular basis.

Will Egolf's team, the Juneau Douglas Crimson Bears, won both Friday and Saturday and Will had good games. He scored 18 points in Friday's 76-53 win over Sitka, and 23 points Saturday in a 75-49 win, also at Sitka.

This site might ask for a registration, but it's free. It describes that Will scored mosy of his points on the inside "against double and triple teams"--

As I offered above, I already have a signon and password for the Juneau Empire, so PM me and I will give you mine and then you won't have to register

I attended the Klein Forest game last night to see Anthony Thompson (had to watch the tape of the Drake game later in the evening).
Anthony had 10 points & a couple of blocks-the link to the stats follows:

http://www.chron.com/c/apps/sports/...ry=boxscore&gender=boys&year=2007&season=2007

The positives-He runs the floor well and for a 6-10 high school kid he seems very coordinated. He shoots left handed but he can also shoot and dribble with the right. Seems to be a good shooter but he did not take a lot of shots.

The negatives-Boy is he skinny. He was getting shoved around by smaller kids. I think he is going to spend a lot of time in the cafeteria and with Coach Wright once he gets to the Hiltop. He also seems a bit passive/not too aggressive.

All in all I was pretty happy. He's got some work to do but looks like he'll be a good player for us. However, unless his stregth improves dramatically I am not sure he will help the rebouding situation too much next year.

Thanks DB....Juco big for BU and r/s for AT. Almost a no brainer.....

I am not sure about a red shirt but we definitely need a big juco so we have time for him to develope ; our lack of interior players may keep us from redshirting any players with size.

And 2008 recruit Daniel West...

Daniel West's Saginaw High School has broken into the Top 25 NATIONALLY as determined by two different services.
This is pretty impressive considering that Saginaw HS isn't even the best high school team in their own city!

Saginaw Arthur Hill High School (Dar Tucker) is #19 Nationally per Sports Illustrated, and Saginaw HS (Daniel West's high school) is #21.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/highschool/01/03/power.rankings/1.html
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/highschool/01/04/regional.rankings/index.html

In the Midwest Regional rankings, Arthur Hill HS is #4 in the Midwest, and Saginaw HS is #6. Simeon is #1 and Loyola Wilmette is #5.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/highschool/01/04/regional.rankings/index.html

Then in the USA Today rankings, Saginaw HS is #21.

Saginaw Arthur Hill (with DePaul recruit Dar Tucker) is the defending state champion, even though Saginaw HS was the favored team last year. Arthur Hill lost last Friday, so Saginaw (daniel West's school) is now the #1 school in Michigan.

They play each other tomorrow night in what is being called the "Clash of the Titans".

In other interesting recruiting news, Dwight Buycks has finally been updated on Scout.com. They have updated him as committed to BU, and as a 2007 recruit (he was listed as a 2008 recruit). However, he's been downgraded from a 3-star recruit to a 1-star recruit. How exactly does that work?

http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=75&p=8&c=1&nid=1930459

That listing also shows him as 6'1", 165 pounds. I stood next to him when he visited Bradley for the Evansville game (I think it was Evansville), and he is definitely bigger than that. Maybe that was his size a year or 2 ago when he was entered into their database. Other sites list him as 6'2"-6'3" and 185lbs which I would say is more accurate.
