I think this is correct. Let me know if anything needs correcting/updating

Anyone noticing that as everyone in the Valley beats up on each other the league's RPI is just collapsing? As much as this keeps BU in the race, I worry that we truly aren't going to get as many teams as we deserve because of this ...

Collapsing?

Realtimerpi shows.... still holding 4th as a conference.

Mo St drops from 14 to 24
SIU moves up from 17 to 15
CU moves up from 33 to 29
BU drops from 27 to 33
WSU drops from 45 to 58
UNI jumps from 63 to 53
Indy St drops from 56 to 64
EU slips from 106 to 107
DU goes up from 112 to 104
ISU jumps from 141 to 131

We had 4 teams in the top 33 before tonight...
We have 4 teams in the top 33 after.

We had 7 in the top 63 before tonight...
We have 7 in the top 64 after.

Our bottom 3 have all gotten better (well, EU dropped 1 slot on the night off).

You call that collapsing?

Yes, but did you see how close the Big Ten is from overtaking the Valley? A couple of weeks ago the Big Ten was not even close and now they have almost caught up.

You are missing something. Go back to realtimerpi and click on the MVC. Then look at the arrows next to each team on the left. This represents what has happened in the last week. Only 2 teams have gone up, and 7 have gone down. The total number of spots lost was 37 compared to total spots gained of 13 (net spots lost = 24). Some of the teams that our conference teams played during the preseason must be sucking it up now and that is what is hurting the league. I still think the Valley will finish 6th maybe even 7th. I think there is a bad trend that will continue...

I understand then what you (and others) mean.

I still don't see it as a collapse. To me, a collapse would be dropping from top 5 to out of the top 10.

Here is a view by JerryPalm at collegerpi.com on his Conference RPI Standings page:
"I think a conference game is like a "team" playing itself, so it shouldn't be included. The NCAA calculates conference rankings both ways (Overall and Non-Conference)."

According to his stats figured for Non-Conference games:
1 Pac-10 0.5793
2 SEC 0.5778
3 ACC 0.5766
4 Missouri Valley 0.5732
5 Big Ten 0.5641

There is still a gap and I am optimistic we maintain it. (In fact, we are closer to 1st than the B10 is to catching us)

Not as much collapsing, but losing ground. We got a head start on beating each other up in conference play. The MVC started conference play before the SEC and ACC. Now those 2 are doing the same thing we're doing: beating up each other and reaping their RPI benefits off of each other. We just got a head-start from those 2.

We'll be 4th. Gosh, 4th. And it sounds like it's disappointing we'll be 4th. Whoda thunk?

Not a long time ago the MVC was fighting for 9th, 10th, 11th. And glad to have two teams in the NCAA. Ill take a 4th anyday and 4 teams, now if only we can work on those seeds.

Unless we get bombed in the Bracket Buster, this league finishes no lower than 6th, probably 5th, and gets 4 in THE DANCE!
Book it!
