Patrick O'Bryant With a Dominating Performance

Patrick continues to improve.
He played his best game ever as a pro, and just maybe one of his best games ever at any level last night.

His team, the Bakersfield Jam still lost in overtime 112-107,
but Patrick had 23 points, 9 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 steals, 2 assists, was 11-12 from the FT line and played 51 minutes and 14 seconds of a 58 minute double overtime game.

Here is the box score

Patrick had an 18 point, 14 rebound game on Wednesday and 14/9 last Sunday.
They play again tonight.

This is definitely great news for POB. He needs to be playing games and getting good minutes. I think now that his fitness level is getting back up there, his numbers will continue to increase. Let's hope this kick-starts some big numbers in the future.

Patrick O'Bryant had another very good game last night. He had 22 points but his team, the Bakersfield Jam lost again at Albuquerque 93-87.

The Jam gets very little scoring from their guards and is mired in last place, so they made a roster move yesterday. They waived guard Tony Bobbitt (from Cincinnati) and signed former NBA first round draft pick Mateen Cleaves (from Michigan State) who had recently returned from playing in Russia.

I think Don Nelson's comments kicked him in the butt and told him he needs to get going... Sometimes young kids like POB need a kick in the tail especially when they have a "laid-back" personality. I thought Nelly's comments were right on and he did it to jump-start him. He is a smart basketball man.

As I posted a few days ago, they signed Mateen Cleaves, an experienced point guard. The Jam was not getting much out of the other guards they had other than Gerry McNamara, and I notice Cleaves had 7 assists. Not bad for his first game with the team. I think they are getting the ball to POB a lot better now that they have better point guard play and POB has had time to work with them. That should continue to help improve Patrick's numbers.

This is exciting to see POB start to make the transition to the professional level. A strong finish in the development league, an off-season working on big-man fundamentals along with strength and endurance training might be the tonic for POB to not just get back to the NBA next year, but to make a statment when he is there.

POB was doing everything right last night. He hit a 20 foot jumping (nothing but net). He came back minutes later and hit a 25 foot jumper at the buzzer, but it was waved off.

Patrick continues to do very well, posting double doubles in almost every game, although in a 102-86 win last night, POB had 8 pts, 10 rebs, and 4 more blocks.

He now has 9.4 rpg, good for 2nd in the entire NBDL, and he leads the NBDL with 2.94 blocks per game (among players who have played at least 1/2 their team's games.)
