Selection Commitee

Butler has a big game at Wright State tonight, with leadership in the Horizon League on the line. If Butler wins the regular season title and the HL Tournament, I think they should get a 4 or 5 seed. For Valley teams, I think the best we will get is a 6 seed, assuming SIU or Creighton win the regular season title and either one of them are ranked after the MVC Tourney. Missouri State and the 2nd place team would be in the 7-10 range. If anyone of the remaining 7 Valley schools win the conference tournament to make the field, they will likely be in the 11-13 range.

DUKE

DUKE

First off, I am a lifelong Bradley fan, who is so happy to see them attain the level of success they have attained the past two seasons. However, I now go to Duke, and I am a Blue Devil through and through. This Duke bashing has to stop. The Vallley is having a rediculous year, and thats awesome, but I cannot for the life of me understand why this has provoked such wrath towards every maor elite program, and Duke in particular. DUke plays an insanely hard schedule, both out of conference (Air Force, Marquette, Indiana, Gonzaga, Georegtown) and in ACC play (Every single team in the conference). And for some reason with six losses you guys are ready to call for their heads. Duke desrves a bid as of now end of story. They not only win, they win the right way. Tell me the next time UIllinois even sniffs a (92% graduation rate, and ZERO NCAA violations in 26 years). Of course Im biased because I get to spend my days here. But I cannot believe that my fellow BU fans are trashing on Duke, like it is some right of passage for any true college basketball fan. That said, Go Braves. Lets run the table.

???

I don't even know where to begin.

Welcome to the board.

Good luck to Duke.

I didn't see all the hate you suggest.

Now, as for the Illini comment... Bradley and Bradley fans could care less about the wizzing contest you want to have between Duke and Illinois.

I can help you find a couple message boards full of Illini fans that would be interested in that debate.

It would help if your team ever played a true roadie in non-con play. Credit to winning with a difficult schedule, but we all know it's manipulation at its finest. Duke is the master of scheduling good mid-majors they can easily beat, allowing the mid majors to build up good record and give Duke a ridiculously overrated SoS.

Please don't take this as anything personal toward you, but--
When was the last time Duke played a non conference road game? Not this year!
They somehow managed to play 14 pre-conference games (to their credit they went 13-1), without ever playing a road game!
http://kenpom.com/sked.php?&y=2007&team=Duke
Midmajors would be crucified if they played a schedule like that!
The NCAA big shots tell the midmajors they must play top 50 and top 100 teams on the road if they want to get any consideration for at-large NCAA bids. Why don't they ask Duke to do the same?
Missouri State was left out of the NCAA last year with an RPI of 21 because of no marquee road win outside of the MVC.

Couple that kind of incredibly kind of homerism scheduling, with the extreme favoritism showed them by the talking heads on every major network, including the Boo-Yah's (Dick Vitale, Jay Bilas, Digger Phelps, ad nauseum) and surely you can see why there is some anti-Duke bias out here away from the center of the basketball universe, the Cameron Indoor Stadium! And it's not just for Duke, there exists the same kind of dislike toward UNC and all the ACC and Big East big shots that receive infinite favoritism from the Media. Are any of Duke's games not carried coast-to-coast on one of the major networks?

If you think that kind of extreme media bias toward Duke (and the others I mentioned) doesn't help them land nearly every 5-star recruit in the country and perpetuates the cycle, then you are in major denial.

Good for you that you are attending a great university and you have a perennial basketball powerhouse to follow.
It would just be nice for the other 300 or so non-Dukes if we could crash your party once every few decades.

The only problem about the Duke non-con schedule argument is:

When you usually load up on home games, you get cupcakes you can easily beat. At least with Duke, they're scheduling up a little bit, beating decent opponents instead of bad opponents. That difference might save their behinds.

It'll be interesting to see how the committee handles this team. It will be very telling.

Sorry, but I do hate Duke, period! That is my job as a mid-major fan, right? My hatred reached a pinnacle last year during the NCAA Tourney when I saw those commercials with Coach K (whatever he was selling) walking across the Duke basketball floor like he was some demigod. I just wanted to puke. What a smug egomaniac.

I don't "hate" Duke, and I never really understood those that do. I suppose it's inevitable if you can sustain success for that long.

I guess you can take solace in the fact that your team is "worth" hating in the first place. Nobody hates the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, right? Or, Western Illinois in basketball.... Heck, I'm having trouble "hating" ISU these days

So my advice is, revel in the "hating".....

Well said Mik... and the thought process could be carried out over so many tangents I don't want to get into.

Btw, 'solace' - great word!
