Evansville get a committment

Steve Merfeld and University of Evansville have a new committment for 2007. With the graduation of 5 scholarship seniors (Matt Webster, Brad Strickland, Kyle Anslinger, Justin Petty, and Arturs Stalbergs) UE needs to "reload".
A 3-star 5'10" point guard Monice Garratt announced a verbal committment to Evansville. He finished a 4 year career at Westbury Christian High School in Houston last year, and has spent the last year at a prep school, Cornerstone Christian in San Antonio. He chose Evansville over offers from Illinois State, Northern Iowa, Northern Illinois, Texas-Arlington, and Missouri State.
He told TexasHoops.com in an interview yesterday that "Southern Illinois just started recruiting me and was calling, but I felt that Evansville was the right place for me and they have a good class coming in." He is a former teammate of Evansville freshman Jay Couisnard, who also attended Westbury Christian.
