Coaching Suggestion

The difference between the D-I and the juco level is so vast, that it just never happens.

Junior college coaches are sometimes hired as assistants at the D-I or D-II level, and can work their way up the ladder and become head coach at the D-I level, but..........

I challenge anyone to give me an example of a junior college head coach, especially one from the lower division of junior colleges (ICC id a Division-II junior college) jumping right to a D-I (4 year) head coaching job.
I cannot recall a single such example.

Head Coach Will Brown of Albany was a NJCAA Coach for several years an djoined teh Albany staff in 2001.. IN December of that year he was named interim head coach and now is the head coach

I know of several juco coaches who became assistants then moved up the ladder, but as for the suggestion Tony Wysinger might be on someone's list for a Division-I head coaching job, I would bet strongly against it.

Well I would put his basketball acumen at least as high as POMO's...

He played at and had some brief coaching experience at D-1 level and is a personable guy who I think could build a great staff and get the job done...

But what do I know...

I challenge anyone to show me an example of a stock broker jumping right to a D-1(4 year) head coaching job. I cannot recall a single such example. Oh wait JL did that, didn't he.

Maybe Dick Versace?

Ahah!!
I got you on this one Dubl R!

Here is one example...
Kyle Macy...straight from investment broker to D-I head coach!!
http://www.bradleyfans.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=13797#13797

And here are some other coaching suggestions I have read...
http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaab/news?slug=dw-violations030207&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

but names that pop up are:
Wayne McClain or possibly even Doug Collins' son Chris Collins to ISU
Tracy Webster to SIU if Lowery goes
Ex-Illinois Mr. Basketball, Brian Sloan (son of Jerry) to Evansville
And a big push to lure Todd Lickliter to the Valley for each of the schools looking for a head coach!

Nicely done. I applaud you, I think? :o

Chris Collins

Chris Collins

I'd love to see Chris Collins at ISU (even though I can't stand them or him). He would certainly inject some passion into the program and would come with God's (oops, I mean Coach K's) recommendation.

I can see Collins and Les getting into it on the sideline as the rivalry re-heats up (especially after we steal a few good recruits from them with JL's Yugo comparison)

Dick Versace, who turned the BU program around, came directly from a JC program.

Well, I guess going back nearly 30 years you found an example, but in having to go that far back, I think you have confirmed rather than refuted my premise, that in recent memory it has been quite rare.
Maybe an Idaho State or a Pepperdine have done it, but wake me when a Valley school considers it.

Dick by the way had spent some time as an assistant at the D-I level at both St. Louis and Michigan State.

Has anyone said Marty Simmons for the Evanville job down there?

I would imagine that Simmons would be a strong name for the Eville job. Herdes has a much stronger resume and would save them in moving costs since Southern Indiana is right there in Evansville.

Tornado, not to argue, but you challenged someone to name a coach who went from JC directly to Div1 and said you can't name one who did. I think the right guy could do it, but Dick was a great recruiter and his experience at St. Louis and Michigan St had to help.
