Let me preface this by saying that we got what we deserved by losing to UNI at home, but, according to Pomoroy's final RPI, we have a higher RPI than 8 at large bid teams (ODU, USC, Purdue, Vandy, GT, VT, Virginia and Stanford) and have the third highest RPI of teams left out (Air force, MSU). And, if you read the bracketology sites and listened to the commentary on TV, we weren't realistically on the bubble.

When are we going to do away with the RPI? It seems like it's such a point of emphasis throughout the season, and it just goes out the window when a few major conference bubble teams win a quarterfinal game in their conference tournament.

Are you saying that we didn't deserve to be on the bubble, or are you just reiterating the lack of talk about BU being a legit bubble team?

Here is a little snippet from CBS Sportsline.

2. People talk about how having a high RPI can protect you, but it really only protects BCS schools. This year the top four RPIs omitted from the field were Air Force (30), Missouri State (36), Bradley (38 ) and Drexel (39). Non-BCS schools, every one of them. Last year the top three RPIs omitted were Missouri State (21), Hofstra (30) and Creighton (39). Non-BCS schools, every one of them. Two years ago the top three RPIs omitted were Miami of Ohio (39), Wichita State (45) and Buffalo (46). Non-BCS schools, every one of them. And if you want to call that a coincidence, I want to call you an idiot.

It just shows you that college BB postseason is basically "rigged" for teams that draw big crowds of viewers which=big money. The media represents this well, they expicitly did not want a world series in the midwest last year because they thought the ratings would be lower. So they tried to hype up the Mets over the Cardinals.

Money is the reason that the BCS schools come up with all the bids.

There should just be a automatic system that selects the teams for the NCAA. I don't care how they do it if they eliminate the subjective way the selections are made. Why a commitee? Just go straight RPI or SOS and record, or just have an automatic # of bids go to each conference, or heck, just have a huge tournament with every Div I BB team with a winning record play each other and just have the commitee decide what the seeds are. I don't know, there has to be some solution to the problem of all the teams that think they get snubbed every year.

I don't know this for sure, but would be interested to see if the big school vs. big school theory is flawed. Almost everyone watches most first round games and I know that if an underdog (like BU last year) is beating a big time team (Kansas), it makes me want to watch their next game. I'd like to think that there was a greater viewership for BU-Pitt than there would have been for Kansas-Pitt had they won. I just think most people like to see David slay Goliath. The round of 32 & the sweet 16 are the rounds where they need the viewership and I'd bet more people want to see an underdog like George Mason or St. Joe's make a big run than the traditional power teams that most everyone cheers against anyway (NC, Duke, UConn, Syracuse).
