Dwight Buycks- update

New member
He did not get a passing test score and will likely "reclassify" as a 5th year senior.
That means he will not be at BU next fall, though recruiting guru Van Coleman is reporting that he will remain verbally committed to Bradley.
He will likely go to prep school, and will be able to sign a LOI in the fall of 2008.

This was predicted by some, but on another note,
Buycks was just named 1st team All State by the Associated Press.

Well, that's too bad about Buycks I was excited to see him next season... Hope the prep school route works for him, and if Bradley and he are still a good fit a year later I'd be happy to see him sign that LOI.

Edit: Guess that explains our recent JUCO recruit.

In a strange way this may help BU. Assuming Ruff comes back, Coles-Scott can back up Ruff and with another year of eligibility after Ruff leaves, Coles-Scott provides BU with a smooth transistion for the guards that we have recruited starting with the Freshmen on the 2007-08 team...

So Maniscalco is not the immediate heir apparent to Ruff?

For how long did the coaching staff likely know this news about DB?

I think the staff as well as DB were hopeful he would qualify with the recent taking of the ACT. The latest reporting of results was just a few days ago.

My own son took the ACT on the same date that Buycks likely did, in early February. The scores were reported about two weeks ago, so I suspect the Bradley coaching staff would have known by March 10.
It is too late now to re-register and take the test again, and get a score before the scholarship signing period.

So in this situation, especially if the kid was pretty close with his test score, the players usually decide that they'll spend a year at prep school and keep trying. That way, in contrast to going to juco, they still preserve four full years of college eligibility.

If Buycks remains committed to BU, he'd be a perfect fit, and with a year of extra bulking up and prep level play, he'd be like a 4 STAR recruit coming in after the loss of Ruffin & Crouch, and he'd really help us!

Here is the problem, though....
If we use Buycks' 2007 scholarship and then give him one for 2008, then there are no scholarships left FOR 2008 even if we want Matt Roth. (unless there are even more player losses than we now know of.)

You answered my question I think in reference to scholarships left for 2008. Are you including X. Crawford in your count of taken scholies? Do we still have that grid on the site...I couldn't find it.

Thanks,

I offer we will never see DB in a Braves uni......Prep schools scare me and he'll be attacked from suitors all across the country.

I watched an interesting story on prep schools on HBOs Real Sports, that sure was an eye opener, talk about sleazy.

Tough deal on Buycks. I hope he follows through on his commitment, but I'm sure people will get in his ear while he's at Prep School.

What other offers did he have? I know Moser pursued him for a while, but he either backed off or Buycks wasn't interested.

The recuriting grid does indeed take Xavier Crawford into account.
It has yet to be updated for Cole-Scott and Buycks.

The All State team was named by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association last week, and Dwight Buycks was named to the first team--

Today, the Associated Press named it's All State team for boys basketball in Wisconsin, and again Dwight Buycks was named to the 5 man 1st team. He is in some pretty good company (2 University of Wisconsin recruits, a Marquette recruit, and an Iowa State recruit, plus Buycks, a Bradley recruit)--

Congratulations to Dwight. We hope to see him in a Bradley uniform in the future!

Here's to everything working out so DB ends up on the Hilltop.,....I still think this kid can be a very good player for the Braves!

I agree...short term it has actually helped us IF the juco that is taking his place comes through. We'll most likley get more from him next year than we would have Buycks.

Long term we are POSSIBLY losing a good recruit.

Well, it may be a blessing since most people probably cannot pronounce his name... I think the "y" is silent in Wisconsin, eh...

We're never going to see DB in a BU uniform. Prep school kids tend to be overhyped, so I would anticipate him landing at some BCS school. That's too bad, it sounds like he could have been pretty good in a year or 2.
