NJCAA-JC Nationals/Rashad Austin

I have heard that Rashad Austin has another school interested in him, in addition to Bradley. He will make a visit to the other school that is much closer to his home in California, then make a decision.
When he was visiting here, he told several fans that he really liked Bradley.
I am guessing we might not hear his decision for a couple weeks. The spring signing period starts April 11th.

Now that JuCo is over........it's time to sign-up RA.....lets get this thing going!

I know there are many people who will disagree with me.....but I really hope BU can sign Charlie Coley before they consider signing Austin.

Not to say I agree or disagree, but I'm wondering, what's your reasoning?

I hope we land the guys we've been giving the most attention to. Last year we got burned big time by our top 2 choices when it looked we the frontrunner. Our 3rd came here and did a fine job, and will be a valuable player next year. But I think most who are familiar with the situation would say that choices #1 and #2 may have had us back in the field of 65.

In the junior college Division I playoffs,
Coffeyville beat College of Southern Idaho 91-86 for 3rd place, Daniel Payne getting 26 points.

Then in the TITLE GAME--
Chipola LOST to Midland, 94-75.
For Chipola, who was said to have as many as 12 future D-I players on their roster, only two of them seemed to know the game was being played.
Jamarcus Ellis had a great game 27 pts, 7 rebs, 3 assists.
Jamarcus' old Chicago Westinghouse teammate DeAndre Thomas also had a fine game 22 pts, 6 rebs.
Nobody else contributed much.

HERE ARE THE INDIVIDUAL AWARDS for the D-I tournament:

Coach of the Tournament

I believe Coley could be a difference-maker at BU with his athleticism and his ability to score/rebound/block shots. Not that Austin wouldn't fill a need, but I think Coley could make more of an impact than Fears will.

Looking at Coley's list of suitors, you could be right. Remember, Randal Falker of SIU is only 6'7", 235, but plays much, much bigger. Looking at Coley's stats, it looks like he does as well.

Of course, I thought the same thing about Marcus Sikes last year! :?

In the very late game, Coffeyville beat Highland 63-61, with Daniel Payne, a previously untouted, 6-7 PF getting 26 pts and 11 rebs on 11-14 from the field, 3-4 from long range.
Payne will probably be getting some recruiting calls very soon.

Daniel Payne has "Blown UP"

Now a lot of big schools are after him, and so are the Illini who appear to be after jucos now that they have dropped the ball on all the local and Illinois high school big men.

Here's a new article........

"Illini Hot After Daniel Payne"

The Illini are looking to junior college transfer Rodney Alexander to be a difference-maker this year and now Bruce Weber is after another juco athlete, Daniel Payne, for 2008 and beyond. Read here for the latest on Payne from his assistant coach, Ryan Martin.

Daniel Payne (6-7, 210) is a sophomore at Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College playing the small forward position. Make no mistake about this recruitment, Illinois is battling the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Wichita State Shockers for his services, according to his assistant coach Ryan Martin.

???Daniel will not make a decision anytime soon. I
???Coach Jay Price is recruiting Daniel. But if things go well for him, I would expect other schools to get involved.???

???We really like his game. He??™s improved from the time he got here in all aspects of his game. He??™s got what I like to call a ???Hot Motor.??™ The kid can go forever, he never gets tired. Daniel also does a good job off the bounce and defends very well,??? added Martin.

???Last year he made 35 three-pointers in the regional and national tournaments, so he can definitely shoot the basketball,??? Martin admitted.

Some sources have said Arkansas leads for his services but Martin feels that Illinois is in the mix. Again, Martin expects Payne to wait until he??™s done playing this season before making his decision."
