Stan Heath is fired from Arkansas

I wonder what this does to the coaching landscape and also if Patrick Beverley will leave. Heath was a huge reason he went there.

I think this job is more attractive than the Iowa job if I were Lowery.

This will be interesting.

There is a faction at Arkansas who still want to bring back Nolan Richardson- just like there was at Indiana that wanted Bobby Knight back. However, with Frank Broyles still the Athletic Director (though he has announced he will retire Dec. 31, 2007), there is no way that will happen.

I can't see Beverly leaving, since he wants to get to the NBA fast, and a transfer could delay that a year or 2.

Stan Heath is highly regarded, and should get some job offers immediately.

Would Stan Heath become a candidate at Indiana State? He won at Kent St. in the MAC which got him the Arkansas job in the 1st place. Could be interesting.

Would Heath be a candidate at SIU should Lowery leave? There aren't many situations better than the one at SIU as far as winning right away goes.

Majerus interviews for more jobs and gets them and then changes his mind so I would have a hard time hiring someone that cannot make up his mind on what he wants to do.

Excellent point! The SIU job would be an excellent choice for Heath if it opens. This would be a lateral move for him and give him the opportunity to re-establish himself as a BCS coach. Indiana St. might not be bad either as it would keep him in his recruiting zone and in a "hot" conference. If I were Heath I'd look at Indiana St. -- This is a no lose situation and would really propel him nationally if he turns the program around. SIU would simply be setting himself up to fail (same situation as Arkansas, IMO)

I think Heath is getting $300K to do nothing for the next 3 years as part of his buyout, so I would expect that whoever hires him will have to at least match, if not top that figure. Right now Lowery makes about $250K at SIU, so I don't see Heath taking a paycut.
