Juco Center ?

lightsout

New member
I was looking at the list of top JUCO players in 2007 on CSTV.com, it listed DeAaron at #18 and Tyrone Cole-Scott at #29. But listed at #43 is David Collins a 7 foot Center from Missouri. Bradley is listed as one of his possible college choices... does anyone know the story on this kid??? Didnt see anything but I could have overlooked it. The article was published on Nov. 8, 2006 so this kid could have picked a school already. Just wondering though.... still dreaming about a JUCO 7 footer.

Thanks

David Collins visited Bradley over a year ago, and Jim Les has recruited him since he was a freshman at juco. He hasn't quite developed as much as our coaches hoped to see, but he is a 7 footer with some skills. He has not committed anywhere, yet. From what I hear, there are a few jucos Bradley rates a little higher and are pursuing, but Collins is not totally out of the picture, yet.

Here is the thread from the recruiting board about David Collins-

We will be hearing news about a big man soon.

Here is CSTV's listing of top 2007 juco players--

Note that Tyrone Cole-Scott is #29 in the country.
DeAaron Williams is #18.

Here are some other players that are among those BU has been known to be recruiting--
Charlie Coley- #3
Desmond Hendrix- #9
Brandon Sampay- #37
Wade Knapp- #41
David Collins- #43
Terrance Watson- #46
Barry Eberhardt- #80
Demetrius Young- #81
From the 3/18 Wichita Eagle:

It's also possible that WSU will add more recruits.

"We're still working," Turgeon said.

Howard (Texas) College assistant coach Jason Sautter told Rivals.com that WSU is the top choice of forward Brandon Sampay. He is also considering Bradley and Cal State Fullerton.

I recall seeing somewhere that Coley is looking at Florida and Hendrix is looking towards LSU. Sampay would be a big body, just not as tall as Knapp and certainly not Collins. I would love to see another 7-footer (Collins) as our first choice, but wouldn't Sampay be on par with Knapp? I've seen people listing Knapp as a top choice and haven't really seen much about Sampay.

Wade Knapp is more offensively skilled, yet has the big body the Bradley coaches want. He also has higher-level schools pursuing him. But Bradley might be albe to offer more immediate playing time. So we should know in the next couple weeks what he decides.

Brandon Sampay is a relatively newer name to become associated with Bradley recruiting. He will end up at a midmajor, but I think he is not at the top of Bradley's want list. He sounds a little like an Alou Keita-type (played at Drake the past couple years).

And Desmond Hendrix was rated by some scouting services as the #1 big man in the country in juco in the preseason. He verballed to LSU was back in the fall, before the signing period started, but then LSU pulled the scholarship offer back and signed a 6'9" forward from a Florida juco instead. Word was they overestimated Hendrix's skills and reconsidered the offer. Hendrix went on to have an unimpressive season at Wabash CC. Last I heard he was averaging about 6 points and 5 rebounds a game and most of the higher Div I interest disappeared.

The article says he is 6'8", 255 lb. forward from Howard College (a Texas juco), and he averaged 13.6 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting 60%. His only offer is from Wichita State, but Bradley and Fullerton State have recently gotten interested.

I don't think Wichita State has any more scholarships left (but then neither does Bradley). Here is an article from last December about Sampay making a visit to Wichita--

We need to lock one of these players up before someone comes in late and gets into the picture; a good big man can come in and play immediately.

A new story on Rivals/Jucojunction reports that David Collins will make an official visit to Bradley on April 13.

Premium story on Jucojunction--

It reports--
David Collins: (SO) 7-foot-0 (215) from Toronto, Ontario, Canada will visit Bradley University on April 13-15. Arkansas State and Charlotte are still keeping tabs on the post player.

I have heard that Bradley will have other campus visitors that weekend, too.

But shouldn't Bradley had oughta have a guy locked in by then?

I would hope so. However, I will take a 7 footer if he has any type of skill or athleticism. We may have more than one opening, who knows.

Not necessarily. If they guy they want prefers to wait until he visits, then that's what you do.

Collins is actually a 60% FT shooter- but would need to improve on that...

He is also listed variously as anywhere from 215-230 lbs, so Coach Wright would have to get em in the weight room if he were to come here...
