New Mexico coach guilty of tampering with recruit?

So you don't think this happens all the time?
I wonder even if it did happen, would New Mexico or Steve Alford be punished any more than McKay was when they blatantly tampered with a BU scholarship player then lied about it?

Is there some kind of exemption for new coaches? I thought I heard that somewhere but I can't remember if it was college basketball or football.

I hope not though.

Lets see what happens when a school like Iowa complains about illegal tampering as they did nothing about it when it happened to Bradley.

I guess this clears everything upp- Steve Alford has taken a page out of Ritchie McKay's playbook, and he calls in the press and makes says that his call to the Iowa recruit "didn't break rule"--

Here is a link to the press conference in January of 2003 when Ritchie McKay and Danny Granger responded to the charges of tampering. Note the response by McKay was--
"By letter of the law, we violated the rule," McKay said. "By spirit of the rule, we did not."
