Lowery looking for greener patures

According to these writers for the SIU Daily Egyptian, Lowery's "out of SIU's price range". These guys also say the university has fallen on hard times--

SIU is not in the greatest of fiscal positions. Enrollment is low, state aid is low, the deferred maintenance backlog is atrocious and the bills are stacking.
Two floors of Morris Library - considered one of the top research libraries in the nation - will not be renovated in the current project because of slim funds. The faculty, which is equally deserving of higher pay, fought for eight months to get SIU to budge on salary issues. Professors have been promised an increase in pay that the university might have a hard time covering.

It's not a far toss from perceived elite to the doldrums.

IMO, Painter was the main man for SIU (recruiting wise) and Webber passed on his coaching wisdom (to both Painter and Lowery).

Time will unravel the great run for SIU and reveal what I believe.

Lowery is best to find his "Retirement Fund" now.... question is, will he get it.

As much as I'd like to see Bradley surpass SIU, this is still disheartening. Not only for Valley Basketball but for SIU as a school. It provides and education to what 30K students? It's a shame for professors to have to fight to get raises and library to fall into delapidation.

Bad for Illinois

SIU is a state school, so it looks like the state of Illinois is letting them down.

They are letting them down. This just reflects poorly on the State's ability to provide a fair, equal and quality higher education to its citizens.

Here in NC it's the exact opposite. Crappy grade and high schools, but great colleges. Go figure  That makes sense :?
