Congratulations to 1998 Drake University grad Zach Johnson for winning the 2007 Masters. Well played Zach....I'm sure they are clearing a space at DU for a big picture of Zach and his green jacket as I type this...
 
We were cheering for him since learning his Drake connections yesterday. Our daughter is headed to Drake next year. (I tried, again and again, to steer her to BU.)

I was impressed by his post-win interviews. Seems like a very humble, down-to-earth, well-spoken guy. I liked his answer to the "What does this win mean to you?" question. He said something like "Professionally, it will change a lot. Personally, I don't think I'll change that much. I'm from Iowa...."

If my daughter meets someone like him at Drake, I'll be a happy Dad....

I totally agree....In this day and age of "look at me....it's all about me" attitudes, it was very refreshing to hear some of Zach's answers.
 
fetz, clearly you have never played golf. if you had, you'd see it differently. golf is no doubt the most mentally tough game. throw in the fact that tiger wins almost everything he's in reach of come sunday, and you've definitely got something to be excited about. beating tiger is a huge accomplishment.

Hey was it just me or did it sound like Jim Nance made Drake sound like Outer Mongolia Falls University when he said that the rest of Zack Johnson's family attended the University of Iowa? Hey this guy surely could have walked on at Iowa but chose to attend a prestigious Missouri Valley Conference school instead. I just tooh it as a slam. Mayhaps I have lately I have been reading too many post by Mac Mob though :lol:

A piece of trivia for you all. The two biggest "nothing to star" type stories in Iowa sports lore are now Kurt Warner and Zach Johnson. Both athletes are vocal about their faith. Both athletes went to the smaller of the four Iowa universities. Both were from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. And both graduated from the same high school...that no longer exists. They both went to Regis HS in Cedar Rapids, which later combined with LaSalle HS to create Xavier HS.

Just some trivia for you all! :)
