U of I women's coach resigns

"Athletic director Ron Guenther said Grentz, who had only two losing seasons -- both at Illinois -- in 33 years as a head coach, recently hadn't lived up to her own standards."

I wonder if losing at home to Bradley was part of not living up to her own standards.

Bradley should do the exact samething with its Womans
Basketball coach.

The University didn't really do anything with Grentz.. She resigned...

BU has had only 2 of 7 coaches for womens basketball have winning records... and none for 25 years....

Annelle Griffin 5-21(2 years)
Jan Winkler 63-31 (4 years)
Joe Stowell 33-22 (2 years)
Angela Beck 38-44 (3 years) later went on to WNBA
Lisa Boyer 124-149(10 years) later went to WNBA
Donna Freitag 37-69 (4 years)
Paula Buscher 84-114 (7 years)

I am not saying accept teh way things are- just pointing out its been a way of life for 25 years!
:-o

Ok then have her resign. This is my opinion and I will say I have not seen a womans game in person in two years, but spent 5 years watching nearly everyone home game in person that she coached and she is a bad basketball coach.

I dont care about the past other coaches, I care about the present and I believe she has no business as a head coach of a division one basketball program. She has proven one thing and that is she can not win with her own coached players.

To accept 84-114 in 7 years is a sad acceptance by the BU administration and athletics department.

12-19 and 7-11 in a poor conference this past season is unacceptable. BTW during her tenure, SIU was in the begining the absolute laughing stock of the conference they now are one of the top programs, why hasnt she improved this program in her 7 years?

Bradley Women's hoops has never been to the postseason.

I am not saying it is ok to accept the 84-114 in 7 years.

I've always kind of wondered if Bradley has ever fired many coaches from any of the smaller sports, like tennis, volleyball, cross country, ect. because of poor performance? It seems like most of them leave on their own or retire.

You are right about that.. I have been around BU for 30 plus years and can't remember anyone being fired or asked to leave short of the men's basletball program and maybe one time in volleyball!

Just asking Braveman, cause I really don't know... Freitag left on her own?

I think it was one of those writing on the wall type things, MM

They had won just 12 games the last two years under her and I think she was teh victim of some weird stuff going on with players and some stuff- so she was out...

But still few and far between- when some coaches are untouchable and barely over .500
