Jeffrey Jordan Will Walk on at Illinois

My take on Jordan to Illini:

The Illini will sell the idea for a 'walk-on' cause they have no open Scholarships (and they are holding one open for Jamar Smith). But when the dust clears over Jamar and he doesn't return to the Illini next year, they will award the scholarship to Jordan. So the Illini will look like champs in the media... doing the right thing to hold Smith's schollie for him... then awarding it to Jordan to lock up the younger brother down the road.

You think this kid can afford to walk on?

Will his dad buy a new team bus like he did when he played baseball for the minor league Birmingham Barons?

No, but I heard he will hire a chauffeur for each player to avoid more court time. Of the judicial variety that is.

I am happy for the kid if that's what he really wants to do. I just don't understand it.

I don't expect Jeffrey Jordan to do what I recommend, but if I was even minimally famous, especially for basketball, I would encourage my kid to go to a lower level, less prominent school where he could get the chance to play and make his own name for himself.
I suppose Illinois is better than North Carolina (I suspect UNC wouldn't take him even if he wanted to walk-on there), but it is the 2nd most prominent school tgo go to for Jordan. He will naver play a meaningful role there. I suspect he'll leave after a year or two of carrying bags and clipboards like walkons do. He isn't as talented as Jerrance Howard was, and Jerrance rarely got to play. And I also expect Bruce Weber to get tired of all the media following the kid, all the questions about when he'll get to play, and probably all the pressure from his famous father, too. I would predict he will still end up at Loyola or ISU down the road, if not some place lower like Lewis or St. or NAIA.

It'll be interesting to see Michael make all these trips to Champaign just to see his kid sit the bench. He doesn't strike as the patient parent.

This article also says ISU was recruiting him, and so this is just another loss to the Illini along with Marcus Arnold.

I didn't read anything about ISU offering him.

I don't know that anyone has said ISU offered him. But numerous sites have repoted that ISU recruited him. And in an follow-up article from this morning's Chicago Tribune by Bob Sakamoto, Illinois State is listed as recruiting him (see 4th paragraph)--

I think he deserves a seat next to Guenther so they can help Webber coach and scream at the players.
