Marcellus Sommerville finished the season out of the playoffs with Angers BC 49, of the French Pro B league. He was their leading scorer.
But he signed a new contract with a team in the higher French Pro A League. He now plays for Chalon/Sa????ne, and helped them win their opening playoff game against LeMans. He scored 9 points and had 4 rebounds in his debut.

Way to go Cellus!

Having watched Cellus for many years, I think he could be a VERY good player in the NBA if someone would just give him a chance. A high flyer, a high % shooter who can hit the 3 and a free throw, drive the lane, and draw a foul. Why has the NBA not picked up on him?

That's the question that hundreds of former NCAA players in Europe wonder. How else can you explain all the kids willing to toil in obscurity in the NBDL and ABA for very little money. They are all hoping to make a name for themselves and get a shot at the NBA. Cellus was probably a 3rd round pick in last year's NBA draft. But unfortunately, they only go 2 rounds. With all the early entries and Europlayers, there are a lot of good players who go undrafted.
This is a definite move upward for Cellus, and it shows that the European scouts are watching him. Maybe he can earn a good living like Anthony Parker did, or even get a shot at the NBA some day.

Nice comments about Cellus. He has a couple problems that keep him on the outside looking in. His hands are not that good and he has trouble handling and catching the ball especially in traffic. Also, sometimes Cellus can become a little indecisive with the ball which can cause quite a few problems (turnovers, blocked shots, etc.) He was a great player and I hope he can work on these problems and make millions! I always thought Anthony Parker's slow (heavy) feet would keep him out of the NBA and I was wrong, so I hope I am wrong again! :)

It's still a slow day, so here are 5 TRIVIA questions about Marcellus Sommerville.

First person to post ALL FIVE right answers gets a prize!!

--What is Cellus' birthdate?
--What was Cellus' scoring average for the year he spent in junior college?
--what was Cellus's scoring average for his senior year in high school (2000-2001)?
--and what was his rebounding average for that final year at Peoria Central?
--Lastly, in the summer of 2003, where did Cellus work in his summer job?

I'll open the bidding with a couple of total guesses, and I can look some of it up when I get home.
