Average RPI of teams in 2006 tournament: 174
Average RPI of teams in 2007 tournament: 145

Overall W-L record of 2006 teams: 14.6 wins - 16.3 losses

Wonder what the numbers would look like if you used W/L and RPI info from the 05-06 season for the teams entering the 06 tournament.

Or, what will the numbers look like for the teams entering the 07 tournament after their W/L and RPI from the 07-08 season are available.

You'd think they would get a few more illinois/chicago teams just to draw more of a crowd, like DePaul or Northwestern. I don't know if Indiana fans living outside Chicago are gonna want to come up and watch if the best team they could play would be Xavier.

Well, maybe a bunch of fans will come out to root for the Big State University.... oh wait, the Big State University is a MVC team, never mind. In this state, fans only think there is 1 school that represents the state.

By the way, thanks bugregshu, All My Friends say JM is Someone Great.

As much as I hate IU they really do have good fans, they'll be there...

True. Not only will they travel well but there are a lot of IU alums in the Chicago area too so no doubt they will show up when we play them. As for us, I'm expecting a big contingent of Redbird fans for that game, as well as the next day when we either face Kent State or Xavier (unless we have a football playoff game that day.) We always draw very well in the Chicago area and the last couple games we played up there (Loyola, UIC) we completely took over their arenas. With this being a big name opponent, hopefully our Chi-town area fans come out of the woodwork for this game. Should be a good crowd overall though as I think both us and IU will represent well.

For those of you BU fans who went to this tourney last year, what can you tell us about the arena? I know its new but what is the parking/traffic like? The place was built with concerts in mind (at least from what I was given to understand) so are the sightlines for hoops decent? Beer/Food prices ridiculous? etc. Any insight would be appreciated, thanks!

It's a nice arena for watching basketball. It's not real big, holds about 11,000. It has a hockey-rink floor, so seats in the south end zone (except thos on the floor) can be a little far from the court. There are no seats (other than a few temporary stands) on the north end, just a stage. The concessions were very good, as was parking. If you want to stay at a hotel, get reservations early, as there are only a couple hotels nearby, but not really within walking distance.

The worst thing I noticed was that there was no scoreboard/clock where it was easy to see. The only one was on the wall of the north end which required turning 90 degrees away from the court to see it. And the home and visitor's scores were separated by a video screen, instead of being next to each other. But the arena was new and maybe they planned more scoreboards.

Here's some news out of ISU and Indiana.

ISU is looking forward to playing Indiana in the Chicago Invitational.

And Indiana may not have one of its fine incoming recruits available next year.
Their best incoming big man, Eli Holman, is still having trouble qualifying. Of course, look for the NCAA Clearinghouse to help as much as they can since it's a BCS school, but here's what Sampson told an inside source:
"Eli Holman was going to have a tough time qualifying and he is still not there according to comments from Coach Sampson .... There have been whispers about prep school but we have not heard anything definitive for Plan B if it comes to that."

Didn't look at W/L but here were the previous year's RPIs when the field for last years tourney was assembled (there were 3 sub-40, and the field is quite comparable):

Jackson State 247
FAMU 253
Savannah St 333 (only 1 official team worse in the nation)

BU 33
Illinois 14
UIC 133
Miami 84
Rutgers 75

Teams 4-6 are maybe not as good, but still about typical for this type of tournament.

I would be shocked if ISU fans could take over a telephone booth. :)

 try selling that pile to the UIC or Loyola fans. They were blinded by a sea of Red in both venues

I'm not saying you're wrong at all but it seems to me like there is always a lack of ISU fans at Carver when we play compared to the # of BU fans at ISU. I guess it might be hard to tell with everyone wearing red, but I know that the ISU students are put in a certain section in Carver, and never have been close to filling even half the section in the last few seasons.

Ok I ment the comment as a joke, but then I tried to do a little research into the crowds for the UIC and Loyola games just for fun.

UIC vs ISU, 4827 total in attendance. UIC averaged 3691 per game last year so the Birds had approximently 1200 fans in attendace.

Loyola I could not find a game on redbirds.com from either the past season or the season before to look at attendance numbers. The Loyola website indicated that the Birds did though play Loyola on 12-18-04, but again no attendance numbers.

But I did find that ISU averaged 5092 at home this past season.

So let me rephrase my attempt at humor.

A phone booth, Redbird arena where ever I would be shocked if ISU fans could fill anything, let alone take over anywhere.

I think we had more than 1200 there. It was a decent crowd overall but it was noticeably pro-ISU. As for the Loyola game a couple years ago, there was 3,871 at their place and that was easily over half if not 3/4 ISU fans.

As for your attempt at humor, I got it...and cant argue it either. Our fans are famous for being incredibly fair-weather. When we win, they show up. When we struggle (as we have been off and on for the past 6 years), they bail. Throughout the 90s when we were consistently good and at or near the top of the Valley, Redbird Arena was packed and games vs. you guys were always SRO. Our last sellout was in '05 against you guys but we were winning games that year so our fans showed up  . The last few years with the program struggling and the fans' increasing lack of patience and being fed up with the way things were being run, attendance dropped to record lows

That was your 1st sellout in 7 years leading up to that game and your last since. (1 sellout in 9 years!)

Was that the last time Redbirds fans stormed the court?

BBFan at the other board says Redbirds fans don't care about beating Bradley so bad .... enough to storm the court.

I think he is wrong.

And when ISU beats Bradley again - which will happen sometime I am sure (maybe this coming season) - fans will storm the court AGAIN as if they have just won the National Championship.

I duno if court-storming is a good judge because here at good ol' BU thanks to KK, students are not allowed to storm the court. With that said I managed a one-man court-storming after we beat SIU at the buzzer this year. :)

Young 18-22 year old kids excited and happy that their team beat their biggest rival for the first time in a few years. If they storm the court, who cares? Nothing wrong with that in my opinon. So you can only storm the court when you beat a ranked team or when you clinch the Valley title? What's your criteria for storming the court? When was the last time BU stormed the court? I remember them doing it in '96 on a Saturday afternoon against ISU because I was there. Was that OK? have they done it since?

Better yet, why do you care?
