Does anyone think this one has any chance?
I wouldn't be totally surprised if they offer him $3+ mil.

Not if Billy knows what's good for him, it's so much easier to be consistent is college than NBA, in the NBA if your good, you get the worst talent coming in every year and actually have to play a tough schedule, in College BillyD can have top recruits and schedule non-con patsies we can walk all over go .600 in his conference he get a 8 seed in the tournament minimum. BillyD stay where the going is easy... a big school with lots of money.

the only way i could see Billt leaving is if he is just up for a new challenge. I really don't think money is an issue. IMO he should stay because I think it might be an even bigger challenge to try and replace a team that just lost 4 1st round draft picks and try to make Florida have another run at a national title

doubt green will be a first rounder but i agree about BDonavon staying put.

6 million is a huge committment from the Magic. I have no idea how he could turn that down. That paycheck will give him respect and cred with the players in Orlando.

Plus he can always come back to NCAA, no lose situation for BD.

Who will get the Florida job? Would they go with someone young like Anthony Grant of VCU? He was an assistant under Donovan, but there are some other more established head coaches out there that might make sense, too.

I would think they might stay in house atleast for this season.

Larry Shyatt was a head coach at both Clemson and Wyoming.

Donnie Jones is the Assoicate Head Coach and has been at Florida for 11 seasons.

ESPN is reporting that Billy Donovan now wants to get out of the job with the Orlando Magic, and return to coaching Florida.

Donovan signed the 5 year, $27.5 million contract, and the Magic is considering holding him to his contract.

The CBS story claims he hasn't singed a contract yet and I think he would have been better off staying at Florida, but this story just cites anonymous sources, so who knows whats what.

Just been watching Sportscenter and Andy Katz is reporting that he did indeed sign a contract and he is trying to return back to Florida. The Orlando Magic are deciding whether or not they are gonna let him out of the signed contract.

Yes, I think you just created a new verb....

"Billy Donovan just Altmaned"
He just gave up $6 mil per year to pull an Altman.

Look for it in the Scripps-Howard spelling bee next year...

May I have the language of origin please?

Maybe I'm in the monority here, but I have zero respect for this decision. Either go there and honor the contract or don't go there and honor the Florida contract.

He had the better part of 2 months to look into this Orlando situation after he won the 2nd title and if he even had a smidge of a doubt (which he obviously did) why would he sign with the Magic?

I know he's not the only one that has done this and there will most certainly be others that do it in the future, but this is atrocious in my opinion. He had ample time to asses the Magic situtation to the point that he shouldn't have been suroprised by anything as Altman apparently was with Arkansas.

If Donovan didn't research this thing thoroughly than shame on him. It's not like he didn't have the time to do so.

I agree with Danny, and in a perfect world The Magic would hold Donovan accountable and he would be required to honor the contract/commitment.

But this is already a PR nightmare for Orlando, so they will let Donovan walk away, they have to look bigger then him in this situation, maybe let the NBA be perceived as the bad guy by banning him, which is a slap on the wrist essentially.

The Magic need the fans of Northern Florida behind them and by holding Donovan a hostage or playing hardball will do nothing but make them look like the evil empire versus the good guys in the situation by letting him loose.
