Judson named ISU assistant/ISU names another assistant

Why not! I'm surprised it took this long for someone to hire Jud.
Great hire. Jud's a tremendous guy, and a great coach. Bradley was fortunate to have him for a few years. He was a fine recruiter for Mo and for Bill Self, but didn't do so well at NIU. But I don't think it was all attributable to him.

Do they have room on the staff for Duane Broussard? He's still available!

Nice to see Jud back in the MVC.

By the way-- for the ISU fans who were wondering why Bradley would want to hire a former head coach with a losing record, what do they think about Jud's record at NIU? But then Jank never had a winning record when he was head coach either.

What was Jim Les' record before arriving at BU? Oh yeah I forgot, he didn't have one, unless you count the WNBA, er wait a minute, wasn't he just an assistant at that level? Did he even have any HC experience?

Obviously he has proven to be a fine coach, I'm just saying that previous experience in the W-L department doesn't mean a guy can't coach or isn't a good hire. To be frank, Jankovich's record doesn't mean jack $hit in 2007. It's what he does from here forward that will determine his worth.

Most ISU fans I've talked to respect the Merfeld hiring and any needling against that hire was done in jest to the Bradleyfans reaction to the Parham hiring. Nothing more and nothing less.

FWIW I think Merfeld is a good hire for Les and BU as is Judson for ISU and Jankovich.. :D

Danny

Danny,
I've been thinking alot in the last month that the nexus
of power in the Valley is going to be between the three
Illinois schools. I just have a gut feeling on this. I look
forward to ISU stepping up and taking their place in what
I believe is a MVC axis of evil. I.E. play an Illinois team
and lose badly. JMHO. Wingrider

I would lean heavily in agreeing with this.

What a great hire for ISU. This is a major coup probably better than the Merfield hire. Rob Judson is one of the better recruiters around when he has something to sell, i.e Illinois or BU when he was here. This is a great hire.

Funny how when the shoe is on the other foot the original post was just a joke. Both teams made good hires. Rob is a great guy who did a lot for Bradley. In fact before they hired Jim Les I was hoping he would return to the Hilltop.

I agree with this too and I've said this very thing on several boards recently. SIU, ISU and BU all have a chance to be in the top 4-5, maybe even all of us in the top 3 in the Valley this year. Theres a good possibility that the MVC will be led by some ass-kickery by the 3 Illinois schools

If that turns out to be the case, then that will also definately heat the rivalries back up. The War on 74 could very well be set to explode again as not only are we improved but the games could have big conference implications as well. ISU/BU is always big but since you guys have whopped us the last couple years the intensity has lessened a bit. Same with us and SIU---they are our 2nd biggest rival but they have beaten us 11 straight times so that rivalry has lost a lot of its luster. But like I said if all 3 Illinois teams are at the top of the conference this year like we could be, then the games between us 3 are gonna get a lot more heated and intense.

ISU names yet another assistant

Althogh not yet annoucned by ISU, there is a notice that Kerry Darting, an assistant and the non-DI program, Missouri -Rolla,
has been hired by ISU as the administrative assistant on the coaching staff at Illinois State University.

ISU is just now making an official announcmenet of the hiring of Kerry Darting.
How come they waited two weeks after we knew it already and had posted it?

Here is an interesting personnel addition.........

Iowa State University Athletics Department has added
a "religious adviser"

"(university president) Gregory Geoffroy ...approved a "volunteer life skills"
position for the department to provide faith-based counseling and referrals
to athletes but warned that the adviser would be watched closely."

also

"no state, university, foundation or athletic department money be spent on the position."
