Stray-Rod.....

His BS last night running the bases was about as bush league as it gets. Yelling at a fielder, let alone yelling "mine" is crap that even high schoolers would not do.

This guy is supposed to be a high end player but doing childish things like yelling at fielders etc will get him one thing... a fastball upside his ear.

He deserves nothing less for playing baseball in that fashion.

His teammates and the Yankee organization should be embarrassed, no one plays baseball that way.

Would you be saying that if your favorite team won the WS on a play like that? Actually the most HS part of the play was the fact that it worked. Shame on the fielders for letting the ball drop.

I am no A-Rod fan or apologist, but if a play like that works it's on the fielders and not A-Rod. What's the difference between what A-Rod did and when middle infielders deek runners into thinking a ball went into the gap or went errantly into the outfield? You never hear those guys get raked over the coals for that and that happens several times a year.

I find nothing wrong with what he did. It may be childish, but if it works it's a great move.
 
Do you actually believe that A-Rod was the first major leaguer to yell "mine" on a pop-up. Blame the fielders who let the ball drop.
 
There is a right way and a wrong way to play baseball. By yelling out as you are running the bases "MINE" on a pop up to an infielder that is the wrong way to play baseball. MINE is yelled to let other fielders know you have the pop up and to avoid collisions.

There are unwritten rules and written rules, he broke an unwritten rule of the game, yes it was successful, but he will pay a price for playing the game in that manner. He knows he was wrong, his teammates know he was wrong and I guarantee you the Blue Jays and all of baseball know what he did was wrong. Whatever happens to him he deserves and he knows it.

This is not just about Rodriguez its about how the game is supposed to be played, you play hard but you do not play dirty.

As for the infielders "deeking" players, they are not yelling out a word that is used to avoid injury. If a runner is not aware of situations by looking at the ball or his base coach and falls for "deeking" thats his fault, but they are not yelling slide, get down etc to him that is the difference.
 
Yeah, that would have been a terrible collision. They were both practically standing still. Not saying you haven't played much ball, but it's hard to believe you haven't heard players yell out all kinds of things trying to fake ot the opposition.

Yes, From a dugout in high school, but when I played in college, 4 years at SIUE if that would have been done that player would have ended up sitting and not playing, you do not play the game of baseball in that way.

Look what he did is unprofessional. I am sure their are others who have yelled something while running the bases and they are also playing the game unprofessional. There is a right way to play and a wrong way. Yelling at a player while you are on the field while he is fielding fly balls is unprofessional.

I bet if you wrote to a major league player, manager, etc and asked this question... If I am running the bases and decide that in order to fake out a fielder, would it be acceptable to yell out the word "mine" while that fielder is trying to catch a fly ball? See if any of them, including Rodriquez, would tell you that is a great idea and is common within the sport. In fact if I can find Dewey Kalmers email address I will email him and if he responds I will post his answer.

So what you are saying is yelling "mine" is unprofessional,but throwing at a batter, which could really injure someone, is ok.
 
I didnt say that Chico, but in baseball you want to play outside the lines of how the game is to be played then you better expect payback.

But cheating or playing the game in an unprofessional manner is ok in your book?

Throwing a pitch at someones head is way out of bounds and probably as bad as it can get in baseball, but dinging a guy in his backside after he broke unwritten rules is how it is and is expected.

Sorry if thats wrong but it is what it is and when Rodriques get his unprofessional behavior returned it will be over. That is simply how baseball works.
 
Sorry, I can't agree. You can yell "mine" all you want, but don't throw a baseball at me. Then we will have problems.

Its not about you or me or what have you. Its about how you play the game of baseball.

You and anyone else would have a problem if they were hit by a baseball, but if you did something within a game that warrented you being hit by a pitch you would know it, your teammates would know it and you would take your medicine because that is how baseball is played.

You might have a problem with it but you would not do anything about it, because you started it by doing something that is wrong within the confines of playing the game of baseball.

I have no idea your age but I can guarantee you if you played a game lets say within the Sunday Morning League and you yelled out "mine" on a pop up to a fielder, your next time up you would be hit by a pitch, that would be if you were lucky and someone just didnt simply take you into their own action, because yelling "mine" out is wrong plain and simple. But after you were hit you would go to first and do nothing about being hit.

Baseball has many unwritten rules, break one and you will have to be paid back. Hitting someone isnt right but its what happens when you break a rule specifically yelling mine while running bases at another player.
 
Throwing a baseball at someone because they yelled "mime" is ridiculous. I played a lot of ball and never played on a team, as far as I know, where our pitcher threw at a batter intentionally.
