Danny didn't even want to stay in the first place. To his defense, he was ready to transfer as soon as Molinari was fired. I talked to him all the time and he kept telling me he didn't know about playing for Coach Les. He was more than ready to transfer and if he had, then that was his option. Coach Les convinced him to try playing for him and didn't take long for him to dislike that environment. I'm sure Danny would take back some of the things he said but he was basically a kid who was upset and said things in the heat of the moment. I'm sure none of you ever did or said anything you regret at some point in your life. Some of you really need to lay off.
I have repeatedly said that I had no problem with him transferring. I would have preferred it have been either prior to or after the season, but with the coaching change, I could understand (Notice you don't see much ill will towards Joah Tucker on here). My problem with DG is him leaving town and saying "he was treated like a slave" (trying to portray our head coach as some sort of racist), saying he needed to play for a "black coach" (despite committing to Jim Molinari, who is white), and saying he wanted to get "closer to home" (despite Albequerque being much farther from Metairie than Peoria). None of those comments were in the 'heat of the moment', much like his decision to transfer wasn't. They were planned, calculated comments. Whether they were his idea or not, he said them. He's a fine player, and I would have loved to see him finish his career at BU. Had he left saying nothing, or saying that he was following Duane Broussard (another topic altogether), I would have wished him nothing but the best and probably chalk him up to 'the one that got away'. But for him to go out of his way to call a press conference and say what he said is not tolerable and not forgotten. His comments regarding the Fieldhouse "bringing back memories" (what memories?) and saying "everyone got what they wanted" (BU getting a team with no inside players for 2 years and a slew of lies and innuendo thrown at the program) show that DG is the same person as when he left BU. The only person that got what they wanted out of everything is DG, but in his world that's all that matters. I don't want him polluting the BU basketball family any more than he already has. He's got his own 'family' in New Mexico, right? After all, it is 'closer to home', isn't it?
