Great Iman Shumpert News

tornado

New member
As Iman Shumpert zooms up the rankings to 5-Star level, every other coach in the nation wants to get in on him, including of course all the "big boys". But Shumpert remains loyal to those coaches who were in first!

Now there's talk that Kansas coach Bill Self wants to barge in and try to steal more Illinois talent.

But Shumpert apparently has told Bill Self to bug off...

Here's a story from the Sun Times......

Shumpert told Bill Self he wasn't interesting in Kansas...
"He's got a way of persuading people. But I told him it's like a loyalty thing. If I wanted to hear more about Kansas, I would give him a call. He didn't pressure me into letting Kansas in."

In other words....."Dollar Bill, don't call me, I'll call you..."

Good job Iman!

A new interview with Iman Shumpert on a premium recruiting site, has some relevance to BU fans.....

Iman says this.........

"Shumpert says he is big on those that came in first. Loyalty goes a long way."

"That's very important," he said. "I think those schools saw me playing big time basketball before I had 30 point games or went out and played consistently in the spring. They saw it before everyone else. I was hitting those same jump shots then. They offered back then. It didn't take me scoring 30 for them to offer and see that I could play. That means a lot to me that they jumped in early."

"Shumpert said he "doesn't have a list" but the teams getting in early helped in the long run. Some of those schools include Marquette, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Bradley and Notre Dame. He has or will visit each of these schools this summer."

"His next stop is local. Shumpert said he will make his first tour of the Illinois campus this weekend.

"The chance to come in and play and the head coach are the biggest things that I'm looking at in schools," Shumpert said.

The four-star guard said he is hoping to make visits to Bradley and Notre Dame this summer. Shumpert said he doesn't have a target date for a decision. He also said he will take some official visits in the fall.

That's awesome to hear. I'm impressed by his loyalty, something that a lot of other recruits don't value. Hopefully we get him here and he has a great visit.

his loyalty definately impresses me also. it sounds like whoever gets him is not only getting a stud ball player, but a quality person. I hope we get to welcome him into the Bradley family!

I'm not counting on seeing him at BU, but Iman taking a visit and keeping us in mind publicly can do nothing but help the program. While there are several reasons why BU would be a great choice for Iman (offensive-minded full court game, immediate playing time, big man on campus, close to home), the lure of the BCS is usually too much to overcome.

I would be very interested to see how far Dave Telep and other recruiting gurus would drop Iman in their rankings if he committed to a lowly MVC school. My guess is that he'd be lucky to stay in the top 100, and certainly wouldn't be on anyone's all-american board anymore. But they don't rate guys based on where they're going....

Judging by the way this kid talks, he is not only a great player, but a quality person. Something that would fit in perfectly with the teams that Les has been breeding since he took over. Maybe Les could pitch that to him...that and being a star that could help bring this school back to national prominence.

I'd love to see him here :D .

I say get Les, JJ Anderson, and Versace to pay the kid a visit and recount the pitch Versace made to JJ to get him to come to BU and the impact JJ made on the program for years to come 8)

And don't forget, we can get Willie Scott to fit him into the sweetest threads....

oh wait...

that's illegal, isn't it?

Would anyone else prefer Iman come to visit BU during the season & see the atmosphere at a BU game? I know the IS derby will probably be over by then, but it definitely would be more enticing for him if he saw what Carver Arena was like on game night.

That's definately the case, but like you said he very well could be committed to someone else by then so I just want him to come and have a good visit, whenever that is.

Just to have Iman still mentioning Bradley, shows what a great recruiting job coach Les and his staff are doing. The community support for the program and it's players has to impress young men like Iman.

Iman Shumpert was visiting in Champaign this weekend.

Here are a few comments from other premium sites....

" Had a very good time

- Connected well with Bruce Weber

- Wants to make decision before season starts

- Is very, very excited about Moody this weekend, said it's the team camp he's most excited about

- Hung out with Dee (Brown) and Luther (Head) ( who were both in town and on campus.)

"Shumpert is ours to lose..."

http://www.news-gazette.com/blogs/basketblog/2007/06/15/shumpert_visits_illinois

"Talked about how he has zoomed up the charts lately. Just catching up to his height. Had a "dumb growth spurt." Went from 5-8 to 6-1 to 6-4 in short time period. It wasn't until his junior year that his body stopped "feeling funny" and he started playing better.

High school coach has coached 35 years and never coached anyone like him.

"Don't call me, I'll call you" to Kansas and North Carolina. Says that some schools are "cocky" to think they can come in late when they weren't recruiting him earlier. "They offered you, and you're supposed to bite."

Would like to play point guard in college. Or a little of both.

Hung out with Dee and Luther. Watched the NBA Final with the team. Roomed with Jordan and Watkins.

"It's been a really good impression right now. My impression is that it is a nice place to be. I'm having a lot of fun."

College decision will likely come in the fall after he narrows list to three and makes three official visits. "But we'll see how that goes. We'll play it by ear."

There is "an air of humility about Shumpert."

"Schools that want you, they wanted you from the get-go. I feel a lot more comfortable with those schools."
