Matt Roth

MMob, where did anyone say it was Bradley all the time? It's just that we were all hoping Bradley would be is choice and we can't blame the kid for weighing all his options.

You're right.... it was all hunky dory for the past 2 years while there were offers from Bradley, Illinois, ISU and every other Dick-Tom-&Harry... and we all hoped MR's choice would be BU).

I give up.

Go tongue-twist with someone else.

Well all is said and done......Ryan Thorton will fullfill the 3 pt shooting very well IMO  ........remember he is really 6'7 and he can shoot the 3 from as far out as anyone I've seen......so whatever MR decides is fine with me!

I agree Big Mike... Ryan Thornton and Matt Roth are the same
type of player... spot up three shooters... I said this on this board a while back.

I have said this before on here, I have not seen Roth play other then in some quick time videos, but I have an extremely hard time believing that a 6'2 180+ guard is anywhere a must get recruit. If he was from lets say Moline would anyone praise him and mention how important his presence would be to BU... but because he is from Washington he apparently is the second coming. He is obviously talented but to be a must get recruit that seems to be an extreme stretch.

We offered him, he seems to not be overally interested thats fine, we should not remove the offer, but and I would imagine JL and staff are doing this, recruit over him, keep recruiting and I 100% agree with MM bring in someone who wants to be at BU without any question. Oh and it wouldnt be bad to bring that player in who is 6'7 plus.

I went to one BU game last season versus Southern Miss and sat next to Dwight Buycks and Roth sat directly behind Bycks with his family. Buycks and Roth both were on the court before the game. Buycks really was into the game and seemed excited to be in the building. Roth, and maybe he is a layed back person seemed like he would have rather of been anywhere other then at a BU game. If body language could speak his said no thanks, Buycks said this is my place to be.

Houston, I know that you have said these things a while back and I have to admit that even though I dont follow HS basketball very much, I think that I got caught up in the local kool aide to a certain extent. Roth is a nice kid with a great shot... Best of luck to him wherever he ends up. I agree with you that we are recruiting over him and I think that is fine... The talent level here is on the rise... I think that it is a matter of time befoe JL lands the 4 plus star recruit.

A new article on Roth from Illinoisprpebullseye.com--

http://ilprepbullseye.com/page40.html

So based on the article MR still lists BU as a frontrunner. I'm not sure why everyone is so upset about not declaring for BU now.
Why is it time to put up or shut up for MR? He can make the announcement when it's time.
All four of those schools have had some major coaching changes...makes sense to me to reevaluate.
Let the process take it's course...

lefty....read my post and note that the entire thing was from the perspecting of how he is viewed by the fans of Bradley.
I pointed clearly to his comments about Porter Moser and St. Louis and the perception that he has little or nothing to say about BU.
And he doesn't need to satisfy me or anyone else....he can make whatever choice he wants.
God knows most BU fans have wanted him here at BU for the past 2 years, but if he isn't interested, then I as a BU fan will begin to turn my interest elsewhere, and hope BU signs someone else.

But as a BU fan, I still have the right to want who I want, too.
I guess I have pretty much the same rights as MR has.
He has the right to choose the school he wants, and I have the right to choose who I want to hype and the guys I want to root for, right?
If he comes to BU I will be his #1 fan, if he wants to go elsewhere, then I probably won't follow him that much.

I have to agree that Bradley should keep reruiting players and if one of them decides to committ before MR then so be it. They all have the same opportunity. All the negative posts about MR have started now that he might be interested in St. Louis. They include, he can't guard, he can't shoot if he's being guarded and now, he's only 6'2". Where were those negative post before?

and again....where are those negative posts now...?
I still don't see any shift towards negative, and in fact, note all the positive things I have said about MR.
I just see evidence that he is leaning towards SLU and am prepared to see JL offer and get someone else for '08.
If it is Roth, fine, but if not, then I trust our staff will get another 3-Star.
(MR is 2-Star per scout, 3-Star per Rivals and ranked #20, #20, #19, #17, and #17 in the Illinois Class of 2008 according to Rivals, Midstatehoops, illinoishsbasketball.com, scout.com, and chicagohoops.com respectively)

I don't know about you but I have read all of those criticisms about Roth -- too short, too slow, can't guard, can't create his shot.....

That being said, I agree with T. I'll gladly take the kid if he chooses BU, and I think he'd have a fine career (probably similar to Eddie Mathews, Trimpe, and some of the past local "shooters" that we've recruited.)

I do get tired about all the hype about this kid; some people make him sound like the second coming. And I agree that BU should not be "begging" a better-than-average local player who is probably too short for a quality D-1 program as a 2-guard (he'll have to either guard guys his size who are much quicker, or bigger and stronger 6'4"-6'7" kids on the better teams).

I'd like to see BU continue recruiting quality kids like Roth, as well as other 2-4 Star players and be in a power position to say: "We'd love to have you come to the Hilltop but we've got 10 other kids of similar ability we're looking at and we'll be awarding this scholarship on a first come basis".

Just my take on things

Braves4life, I don't remember seeing all the negative posts about Roth until the past few days. Because for the past 2 years I'm gone after December, I have to say I've never seen the kid play. But I keep reading this board and last Winter the posts were bragging him up as if he was as you said, the last coming. I didn't say it. I just think this board is being too critical of a kid because he hasn't made a choice yet. Keep recruiting and if someone else committs, so be it. By the way, I like your dartboard picture.

The college experience is more than basketball!

The college experience is more than basketball!

Every kid needs a chance to grow up without his parents, local media and geeks like us breathing down their necks! Wherever Matt goes he will be met with tremendous pressure to perform but that pressure will be nothing compared to what would be expected of him in Peoria! Both of my kids were recruited and played D-1 and did it far from home, I know they had a great total college experience and I beleive turned out the better for it! Anyway, wherever Matt goes I wish him the best and hope he gets to enjoy the experience and grows with it, what he does on the court is secondary and is just a means to an end!

Cut him some slack!

I don't read near the stuff you do T, but I haven't read anything that MR has said about any school really...so I guess I thought that the put up or shut up was alittle harsh IMO.
Like I said all four of those schools have had major coaching changes...and I think we sometimes tend to forget this is a huge decision for any HS student..it's the next four(or five) years of his life. I really don't know if he will be great or not as I don't think Ive seen him play but maybe one time.
As for what appears to be lack of interest when he is at BU games...I have seen him at other games in the stands and he never seems interested...gotta feeling that is the way he is.
He's probably been to many BU games so the excitement is not as great as someone who has never been there.
After all that....I agree that he is not a make or break kid for us but I am sure we will all follow his career where ever he goes.
