Marcellus Sommerville has made the roster for the World Champion San Antonio Spurs NBA Summer League.

The Spurs are playing now (Friday afternoon) in their fist summer league game against the Philadelphia 76er's team.
The game is carried by the NBA by video streaming on the NBA website.
To see this game or future games featuring Marcellus or other BU players, go to the NBA website-- www.nba.com -- and click on the link for the summer league webcasts. It requires registration, but it's easy, fast, and free.

I am watching the game now, and I think Marcellus is #10 in the black uniforms. He has 4 points so far.
Here is an updating box score--

The Spurs will play Tuesday night against the Golden State Warriors team. That game will feature Marcellus against his old teammate and buddy Patrick O'Bryant.

Cellus' 6 points was still 4th highest on the team. From the portion of the game I saw, Cellus' problem is that he isn't enough of a ball hog to score big or stand out on these summer league teams. These teams are loaded with players with remote chances to make it to the NBA, in addition to a few draft choices. Those fringe players know they have to score big to make an impression. Cellus didn't have much of a chance, since he doesn't handle the ball, and there were very few passes that came his way. Maybe in their future games he'll get more chances.

Here are results from Saturday's NBA Las Vegas Summer League-

Marcellus Sommerville played well and scored 6 points and had 3 rebounds as the San Antonio Spurs lost 67-53 to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Cellus was 3-6 from the floor, while the 5 starters were just 8-41.--

Patrick O'Bryant had a game-high 10 rebounds to help the Golden State Warriors win their 110-102. The Warriors first round draft pick, Marco Belinelli, scored 37 points.

Both the Spurs and the Warriors are off today, then play tomorrow. They play each other on Tuesday night.

I hope they don't meet his demands and he leaves. I think it's an understatement to say that Pat would be much better suited under a new, younger, coach. I know it's hard to find a good, young coach, but someone like Avery Johnson would be awesome. Obviously he isn't going to leave Dallas, but someone like that.

Another rumor is that Golden State is involved in trade talks with the Wolves for KG. POB, while not in the rumor, would definitely be affected if such a trade happened.

Cellus Mention in Olney local newspaper, Sommerville is a grad of Southwestern Illinois College, and the GRAC (Great Rivers Athletic Conference).

"Two other former GRAC players are also competing in the 2007 NBA Summer League. Donta Smith (Southeastern Illinois College) is currently with the Sacramento Kings while fellow forward Marcellus Sommerville (Southwestern Illinois College) is suiting up for the defending NBA champion San Antonio Spurs.

Sommerville took his game to Bradley University in Peoria following the JUCO ranks, toaling 15.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per game as a senior. He was undrafted."

He would be a perfect fit as a back-up center for a team (Miami, San Antonio) with an aging all-star center where he could learn and take over in 2-3 years; or with a younger team that doesn't mind 2 losing seasons while the players learn and improve (Minnesota, Boston) 8)

Monday's description of Patrick (and Nate Funk)

"Patrick O???‚¬?„?Bryant
8 Points, 7 Rebounds, 1 Assist, 1 Block, 4 Turnovers, 4 Fouls, 4-6 FG

-O???‚¬?„?Bryant played a half way decent game tonight, playing significantly more efficiently than usual.
-O???‚¬?„?Bryant did have a tough time hanging onto the ball, getting pushed around down low for the duration of the game.
-O???‚¬?„?Bryant showed his range, knocking down an impressive 20 foot jumper to open up play.
-O???‚¬?„?Bryant used his size better than usually to get position for rebounds on the defensive end.

Nate Funk
14 Points, 2 Rebounds, 1 Assist, 2 Steals, 4 Turnovers, 5 Fouls, 5-9 FG, 4-5 3FG

-Funk played really well tonight, finally getting the chance to play to his strengths. With Marco Belinelli out of the picture, things opened up for Funk significantly on the outside.
-Funk???‚¬?„?s jump shot looked great, and hit shots off of an array of cuts and moves.
-Funk isn???‚¬?„?t athletic enough to be a great defender, and his lack of footspeed also hurts his ability to handle the ball as a point guard."

Isn't that POB's main problem all along? He kinda' has a Shaq game with a Tony Kukoc body. It just won't work in the league until he adds some bulk.

Patrick just needs a team willing to develop his skills to the NBA level. The Warriors are not committed to do that.

Here is an example--
There is an NBA journeyman free agent center named Mikki Moore who just signed a 3 year $18 million contract with Sacramento at the age of 31.--
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2936292

Moore is a 7 footer who was unheard of when he came out of Nebraska. He was undrafted, played with 9 other NBA teams prior to Sacramento, also played in the CBA and overseas for a while, but has finally developed into a pretty good NBA center. He cashed in big time last week as a free agent. Here is his bio--
http://www.nba.com/playerfile/mikki_moore/bio.html

At Nebraska, Moore had a career average of 8.6 ppg and 5.8 rpg, and his best year he had 11.7 ppg and 7.4 rpg.
I believe POB has as good or better physical skills as Mikki Morre possessed, and just needs time. Remember, POB just turned 21 years old last month and there aren't many examples of 7 footers like POB who have entered the NBA at such a young age and been an immediate success.
I do believe he will get traded this summer, and if not he'll be a free agent next summer and will end up with a team that will help him develop into a good NBA center.

I hope your right DC. But many NBA "experts" are saying there won't be any more trades this summer :|

I think there will be. I think Garnett will get traded in the next couple weeks. And a number of teams will reevaluate what they have after these summer league games and some will trade players they have under contract but realize they do not need.
