Sorry if I misspelling his name. From Winnebago high school, reportedly is leaving West Virginia. Will be interesting to see if he considers Illinois State. I know that Judson had a pretty strong relationship with him while coaching at NIU. Judson almost had Bawinkle and Willie Veasley from Freeport, who ended up at Butler, join him as a package deal at Northern.

Also, interesting rumors on Redbirdfan that Jankovich and the Dodie Dunson family are very smitten for each other.

Thanks vbird.
I was just preparing to post this. This has been rumored all summer.
Here is a link to an article that was just posted a short time ago--

Bradley was also interested in Devan out of high school. I wonder if Jim Les will keep in touch. He would be another interesting option to replace Jeremy Crouch in another year.

The strongest rumor has him transferring to Highland Community College in Freeport, Illinois (not far from Winnebago, IL his hometown). The article says Highland junior college is in Kansas, but that is an error. He would then have 2 more years of eligibility leaft after this coming year.

Devan is a really good player, but I didn't necessarily care for some of his antics on the court in the limited times I saw him on the court.

In his last hgih school game, he was completely shut down by then Freshman and now Junior guard Seth Evans from Seneca, and took some pretty cheap shots at Evans that were uncalled for. This wasn't the only time I saw this type of behavior.

By the way, has anyone seen or heard anything of Seth Evans of late? Seemed like hard nosed, heads up type of ball player. Hope he can make it to the D1 level.

I've seen Seth a few times and he is a solid ball-player. My only concern with him reaching D-1 status is that he's a little heavy-legged. Not that he can't be D-1, but I'm not sure if he would be starting caliber at a D-1 school. He is very strong and has a great IQ for the game (Coach's son and plays like it), but might have some trouble guarding on the perimeter in D-1.

Overall I like his game and will look to see how much he's improved for his Junior year. He still had Griffin Callahan last year but with him gone, Seth will be the top dog and I am interested to see him and how plays when it's 'his' team.

He does a lot of things well on the court and is very cool under pressure.

I never thought Bawinkle was the caliber of player to play at West Virginia for the current or former head coach. It doesn't sound like he's considering his former coach's current school, which says something about his relationship with him in the first place. I wonder if he could do it all over, if BU or ISU would be his school of choice? I wonder if Matt Roth is taking note of this?

He's a guaranteed D1 player if he wants it. UW-Green Bay has already offered a scholarship along with one other school (forget who).

The above article says he is being recruited again by Eastern Michigan, Richmond, Illinois-Chicago and Eastern Kentucky -- coached by former Beilein assistant Jeff Neubauer. It does not say what schools have offered.

Bawinkel was also pursued by DePaul but he won't go there, since any transfer from one Big East team to another has to sit two years. He might just do a year of junior college.

He will be playing there with Robert Eppinger and Parrish West, so I suspect
some of the BU coaching staff may see some of their games this season.

I found an interesting comment or two in that link.
Devan says, "The taste I got out of it is college basketball is a business," Bawinkel said. "I began to learn that when Belien left after he promised to be there all four of my years. Some of the things Huggins said proved that even more."

Come on, seriously? Remember, at the very time Devan was being recruited and signing his LOI, WVU coach John Beilein was actively seeking AND interviewing for the top job at North Carolina State!!!

How can Devan claim he was caught off guard that Beilein left a year later to take the top spot at Michigan?

No, it is a perennially strong D-I junior college.
One of DePaul's 2007 recruits, Matija Pocsic is from Highland.

Right on T, Highland under Coach Norman has really become a D1 Juco power.

Anyone happen to know where Neubauer grew up. I knew a Neubauer family from Sterling and their dad was coach at onetime at Sauk Valley Juco.....I think he had a kid (actually 2 boys) and one was named Jeff.

Thanks....
