Daniel West not eligible at BU

This is extremely interesting that our staff would not await until May to get the full determination whether or not West would be eligible. I really wonder how poor his grades are, those grades apparently are not to poor for now Tennessee and Louisville to hop on his recruitment.

This is very disappointing, but at least, we do it now rather than risk losing him when it's too late to find a replacement.

I think it's all said in the article. Losing Buycks and Williams were tough things to deal with, and the coaching staff doesn't want to go through that again at the end of this year. I bet if we didn't lose out on those two, we would have taken the chance on Daniel West.

Wow......this all seems a little strange........now it makes sense why there any news on DW over the summer.......I wish it could have worked out!:(

It must really be hard to be on the staff......do everything right....get the commit and still have kids not make it.........

PS.........someone tell Shaun it's time to up-grade the scholarship grid again!

This is terrible news. Everything I have read and heard about West led me to think he would have been a difference maker in the Valley. I wonder how bad his grades had to be for BU to pull the plug this early. Can we get Stan Simpson and Devin Hill to both commit in the next few days, that would make me feel better.

I've got to think they thought he had virtually no chance of qualifying in order to drop him now. Otherwise, it doesn't make any sense to me to do this now, given that we already had 2 open scholarships for next year. Are there any restrictions on when a scholarship offer can be pulled?

If WE have "virtually no chance" of qualifying someone, then he had better not end up at a Louisville or Tennessee next year. Unless Bradley has a completely different academic standard than the NCAA, I'm not sure how this logic really makes sense.

I'm all for good, well-rounded guys to become part of the program. But I also find it VERY strange that he'd be gone so early with this much time to bring up his grades. When someone has THAT much talent, how can you just give up so soon?

I'm sure the staff has their reasons and I trust their decisions. But now McCain better be REALLY good ...

I agree, this has been bothering me since I read it earlier today. We simply said thanks but no thanks to possibly the top guard in the state of Michigan because his grades are not qualifying in September. He has almost a full school year to improve his grades, and his coach did say he received two A's in the summer.

Could there be more to this.. essentially someone told him you can do better then BU and BU told him fine we are going another direction if you are not commited and to be civil we are saying its the academics? I just dont see how you invest time and energy into a high end recruit get him to verbal then essentially divorce over him possibly not qualifying.

Well, I have said several times on here that I would be surprised if DW made it to BU. However, I didn't think it would be because of grades. Either his grades must be so awful that he has NO chance of qualifying anywhere, or something else is going on. I trust the staff and the decisions they make, but I am concerned. It seems like I am always concerned, but usually there's a good reason. I think this is a good reason.

Something smells awful fishy about this....My guess is there is alot more to this story than what is being said. I hope this is not a case of the "big boys" coming in late and stealing committed recruits away. I can't believe BU would cut the ties with this kid this early unless something else has happened. I would almost bet money that we see Mr. West on a D1 roster next year!

And qualified. And Boogie is right McClain isnt qualified so to move on from West seems very odd in the least.

This seems very plausible to me.

I guess my question would be - If the 'big boys' are coming in, why are we backing down? He verballed to us. Why don't we continue to recruit guards, and if he decides in November not to sign his LOI with us, then we have Plan B, Plan C, etc? He's only in Michigan, so it's not like he's that far away to maintain contact with up until November. As I said earlier, either his grades are AWFUL and it would take some sort of miracle (i.e. DeAaron the 2nd semester at ICC), or there is more to this.

In hindsight, no wonder Eddren McCain is so upbeat about heading to BU. As he did with Dan Ruffin, it sounds like Jim will be handing Eddren the 'keys to the Cadillac'. As I have said in other posts, a big wing that can shoot I think is imperative. We've landed our replacement for Ruffin, now it's time to find our next JC. Simpson or Hill wouldn't be bad either.

With all the problems BU has had lately with Crawford; Buycks;and Williams they probably felt like it was time to go after a sure thing rather then wait to see if West would qualify ; sounds to me like he did not do the school work his jr. year so how do you trust him to do it when he is in college.

Sounds OK to me. Until now, I couldn't understand why BU was recruiting EM. For whatever reason (other school ... academics ...), DW was not going to be a Brave due to DW's actions. BU responded by finding anther point guard.
