BU's New TV Deal

Cable only?

Cable only?

That announcement sounds like a local cable exclusive. That makes me very sad.

Still, it sounds as if they're trying hard to get it broadcast around Illinois. It's a start, especially so close to the season start. Good job.

I'll give BU this years deal...but in the future, BU needs to find a better deal that will
reach a wider audience!!!!

You have to start somewhere, and this deal should reach more people than the deal with WEEK did. With the formation of a BU Basketball 'Network' of stations, it's the first step to BU being a regularly televised basketball program. Being a small, private institution in a small media market, it's going to take time to build a following outside the local area that makes it worth it for stations to carry us. I think this is a great first step. If BU continues to excel on the court, our exposure into other geographic areas will grow.

Looks like folks with satellite TV, Direct TV (That be Me) and Dish TV, are s-c-r-e-w-ed!
I wonder how large those numbers are?
I bought Direct TV for its Sports Coverage, now I cannot even see The Braves.
To bad so sad!
Just wonder if "The powers that be" ever thought this out?

"Insight also has expressed a willingness to share their productions with other cable providers outside its service area to provide what amounts to a Bradley Basketball television network"

I also wonder what channel it would be on?

I am in the same boat as you are grassman with direct tv..... That is why I am willing to
give BU the benefit of the doubt for this year...but next year BU better come up with something much better...imo

BU has never been part of the DirecTV sports package, nor has any other MVC team. How is this any different than before? I think by moving off of WEEK to another, larger distributor of BU basketball, that the chances are better that the games will be picked up by local cable outlets like Comcast SportsNet and/or Fox Sports Midwest. I'm not really sure what you folks were expecting. It's not like we're the only MVC team without a network television contract. In fact, I think we would be the first.

If none of that works, pay for BUBraves.TV and run it through your TV. I have been doing that for years for the few games I cannot attend. Works like a charm.

Local staions RE: WEEK and WMBD (For the away Isu game) Are part of the Direct TV network!

Perhaps you should read Da Coach's post regarding Comcast's acquisition of Insight in January, and the long term prospects of BU's new deal. I think you may change your tune.

I certainly cant speak for grassman, but I think that the major part of this when I posted was and or is the unknown.. I live in the central Illinois area in the country where we will never see a cable hook up for my area. Therefore, a satellite company is our only source
to get these channels. Da Coach's posting cleared this up for me to a large extent. I am hoping for a Fox sports midwest and or a comcast channel to carry the BU games. Webcasts are an alternative and I think could be the future of all this, but the area I am in is not conducive for the bandwidth needed to properly watch the webcasts. All in all, I feel a lot better about this now.

Just to clear things up, I wasn't trying to be a wise-@ss. I was just trying to point out that the distribution through a cable company (which is about to be acquired by a media giant) is a good thing. As a DirecTV subscriber myself, I am certainly hoping that this eventually means more games televised on channels DirecTV broadcasts. I have every sports package known to man, hopefully BU will someday be a part of it.

All good BradleyBrave... I never thought that of you at all. Just having a constructive discussion thats all.

I do find it particularly ironic that Grand Prarie is sponsoring this deal. I wonder what the Digital Store (Dish provider and a retailer near Dick's) thinks about this? There's also a satellite store in one of the Prarie outlots that sells Dish and DirecTV, but I am not 100% certain if those outlots are owned by the same management company..

WEEK reaches every television household in this DMA. Insight only reaches between 50% - 55% of television households in the market... you do the math.

I'll believe that that some other cable companies will pick these games up when I see it.
